Hyperloop - LA to San Francisco in 30 minutes?

Quote:LOS ANGELES (AP) — Imagine strapping into a car-sized capsule and hurtling through a tube at more than 700 mph — not for the thrill of it, but to get where you need to go.

On Monday, billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk unveiled a transportation concept that he said could whisk passengers the nearly 400 miles between Los Angeles and San Francisco in 30 minutes — half the time it takes an airplane.

If it's ever built.

His "Hyperloop" system for travel between major cities is akin to the pneumatic tubes that transport capsules stuffed with paperwork in older buildings.

In this case, the cargo would be people, reclining for the ride....

Elon Musk is a pretty crazy awesome dude. My dream is to do things like he does Glitter

also a slightly more.. engaging.. topic then what Mazz has been posting.. Rolleyes

I'm not going to be a bad man here but what if there was a crash or something? Something going over 600 mph will definitely cause major damage.

But on a happier note, if this works out, I get to meet my friends in NY.

Futurama is almost true.

Now we just need space ships that move the universe around them.

Saw this on NBC news today. The reporter compared him to Tony Stark lol.

In order to keep up with safety codes, it would have to have a shitload of emergency exits. So many that, I don't see how the structural integrity of this thing will hold up, considering how much force is in motion inside of it. Sounds cool, but unless he has some totally new idea that I'm not thinking of, I don't see how it will work.

The only major problem I can see with this system is california's high seismic activity.

Seems like the main difficulty would be safely accelerating people to that speed. Keeping something moving at high speeds isn't that bad.
