That would be the best because even 2/5 c is way to slow to do some planet jumping, just going to proxima centauri would take almost eleven years.

If your arm is going into one end of the portal and out the other end of the other, and in your hand you're holding the portal device, and you fire a portal onto an opposite wall, your arm will travel with the portal.

Placing a portal while standing between them (part of you in one and part in the other) only makes the portal regurgitate you to the side where most of your body and the gun is, if you try shooting from the side where your body or the gun is not most in it simply won't work as the beam doesn't travel through the portal.

It's based on my gaming experience, not worthless speculation.

However, the portal itself would need extra mechanisms to generate any extra force to regurgitate you with. If those aren't existent, it'd just splice you. Or teleport your hands to the site of the new portal.
