Maplestorys stat and equip system! discussion! how would you change it?
#61
MapleStory is one of the only games that I've played where an upgraded level 10 equip can be several times better than a perfect level 100 equip. The extent to which you can boost your stats in this game is insane. I would've made the base stats on equips at higher levels scale up at a much greater rate. Level 120 armor should be adding a lot more stats than can be made up with a scroll or two. Scrolls should be level limited and less luck based, and come in greater varieties.

The HP system in this game is just retarded with the cheap instant heals to full HP. It's really just beyond repair. I don't support the idea of having to allocate points into HP solely to survive a hit from one boss. All classes should just have a rough amount of HP that boss damage should be set to accommodate.

Sums up what ive been saying.... It would be easy to implement by giving GOOD stat boosts when items are used as a set

Regarding the HP issue, to survive a hit at BF on my shadower by 170, I'd need to add about 25-30 more points into HP. This equates to around ~180-210 on my max (more if I use an apple). Seeing as my equips still have tons of upgrading that can be done to them, really this difference can be made up unbelievably easily. All I'd need was a boost off equips that equates to roughly 6att through any means (stat equips, attack equips, a mix of both). I might not even have to add that many, seeing as none of my equips are maker'd with HP (yet). Personally I don't see what the big deal is. The whole "adding HP = crippled character" is hopelessly overplayed.

Regarding DEF, it would be nice if it made a difference yes, but not to the point where chief oblivion guardians do less than 200 damage. Even 12k touch at PB isn't much for an appropriately levelled warrior. I'd like it if both the HP system and the DEF system actually worked together rather than having one dominate the other.

"Fixing" Maplestory at this point would be difficult to say the least.

No offense but unless everyone in the game has perfectly scrolled equips, maxed bless, and Maple Hero and your all in a massive, server wide, plantain measuring contest your damage does not suffer a significant amount to the point where your character becomes worthless if you add points into HP and don't wash them out. And in all honesty it's not that I wouldn't want a better system but it's bull sh*t to say Nexon is FORCING you to pay to survive certain things/areas/bosses/etc....

Whats wrong with it? can you tell me plz?

My statement was that you didn't need to "wash" the points out unless your are a damage hoar... my point still stands and no one's yet to disprove it.

well... a damage obsessed bishop is like an INT obsessed Bandit... yeah i could see some reason to do that but maybe you made a mistake somewhere along the lines Rolleyes not saying you CAN'T do good damage under certain circumstances but those certain circumstances are limited...

It'd be something like...

Could also tweak the equation for a smoother curve:

Then STR could add weapon defense without making warriors immune to everything as a consequence.

No i didnt make any mistake.
Bishops CAN be DAMAGE whore you like it or not. (sucks to be me, right?) i still want to know why. ill wait your reply.
There is something that would make this game better and that is, ppl stop hating other classes (mages) just cause they train faster, so what? melee classes can boss faster (they want to train faster and boss faster) that way they will stop complaining, oh and removing Genesis turning bishops into priests again.

"Learn to heal" ooh the old times...

What if we replace the damage a monster deals. For example, the base damage of a monster is halved, and the monster gets a chance to hit a Critical Hit which does the full damage. The Crit chance depends on the level difference between the monster and the person who's hit, and can be lowered with w.def and m.def (depends on the attack). It works a bit like avoid, but you can't drop it past for example 5%. Also, Nexon can release a class with a party-skill which can lower the crit-chance to 0%. This way, on normal monsters you get less damage overall, but you still need the HP you need now to survive the crit-hits. In parties against bosses like Pink Bean, that new class becomes almost mandatory for ranged classes to avoid Crit-hits at all, and make them be able to survive them without HP-washing. =)

No idea if it's a good idea though, just something that popped in my mind.

Some of these ideas are terrible and are obviously from people who haven't played games with better mechanics than this one (pretty much any MMO/RPG). Whatever, from what I've played (Kingdom of Loathing, Ragnarok, Diablo 2 particularly), here's the best mechanical systems I've experienced:

Whatever. This isn't going to happen. Still, these are just a small portion of the things Maple does ridiculously poorly that other much older games have done right. To be honest, there's almost no excuse for a game to be as mechanically poor as MS, but whatever makes money I guess.
