How can anyone enjoy a 100+ episode shounen anime series?

Hehe someone should try finding Dokuro-chan if you haven't heard of this... Its really really short but i laughed so freaking hard because it didnt make ANY sence. :B

Yeah there is, an anime about it LOL. Supposedly being released next year hopefully. Have you kept up with it? I want to know how it ends..though the last one released, with the "recent event" made my heart sink..

I stopped watching Bokusatsu Tenshi Dokuro-chan after the first 10 minutes or so because I couldn't stand the art. Plus it seemed like it would keep revolving about her killing and reviving the guy over and over without any actual plot development so...

This is kind of why I stopped watching anime after Dragon Ball. Everything is just the same, so I'd rather watch what I've already watched than watch the same thing under a different title.

Well, if you're talking about endless action series, then I suppose they mostly follow the same formula, but it's quite a stretch to say that "everything" is the same.

You may like "Neon Genesis Evangelion," though. I remember seeing it on Adult Swim and it only has about 16 episodes and is f'ucked up beyond hell. I remember my friend telling me all about it in school and how mentally f'ucked up the show can make you.

Eva's certainly not a series for everyone. Not very good to base your judgement on popular stuff, especially something like Eva. a lot of people would just call it pretentious shit because of how hard it tries to stuff so much symbolism into everything and how hard it is to understand. I liked Eva and kinda agree with that, but at the same time it wouldn't be Eva without that, it'd just be a generic mech series.

Samurai Champloo is good, too. It's more of a non-serious show. It was on Adult Swim for some time. It was one of the few Adult Swim shows I actually enjoyed. Not to metion, a VERY great artist, who past away this year, did most, if not all, of the music in the series.

Count me in with that, i didnt enjoy EVA. sure it was good, but it just wasn't my thing. Betterman and Paranoia Agent did the mind screwing better for me.

Another anime i'd recommend: .hack//Sign. Just because and only for the fact that i am a fan of it and a nerd myself.

I dont know if anyone watched the anime called monster. it has 74 episodes and i wish it had more.

You know, when people mention that mainstream stuff they see on TV nowadays are the sh`it, it frustrates me because they have no idea that out there, there are non-mainstream (perhaps even Underground) anime that are probably 10 times better. When I was young, I thought Samurai Champloo was the sh`it. Everything I watched on Toonami looked awesome, until I discovered English-subbed anime that were never brought over to the US that were not licensed. Those ones seemed better. Can't think of a great example at the top of my head, so don't bother asking.

Am I the only one that thinks more gore =/= more mature?

I watched a lot of horror movies with my family when I was a kid, does that means I had mature tastes for my age? Even kids know that if you slice off someone's head, it comes off and blood squirts out. It's not difficult to comprehend. I don't really find anything mature about it at all. I always see "blood and guts" brought up whenever discussion of "mature" anime comes into play. You realize a lot of those examples aren't even trying to target adults, right? I'm not bashing anyone here, nor am I trying to say any series that anyone brought up is bad. I'm just saying that I see gore brought in all too often as a prime factor for what makes something mature or not. There are plenty of anime that actually do have adults as their target demographic that don't have body parts flying everywhere and overly dramatic deaths.

I didn't really get the whole thing about Johan, mostly because I watched a few episodes here and there, and also because I was watching it with a Chinese dub.

I must say I wasn't too used to the art, but then again it's set out of Japan and the more western-ish art fits this perfectly.

The episodes I did watch were fairly good, although they weren't super fantastic or anything.

Then again, it could've been because I couldn't understand pomegranate what with the bloody Chinese dub and all.
