MAJOR NEWS - Nintendo Launching 'Nintendo 3DS'

HurrycaneX Wrote:I think one of the problems with the 3DS will be that most of the games that will be released on it won't fully ustilise the systems abilities. Sure, most all DS games make use of the touch screen, but they rarely ever get the best graphics available. The few games that do are either bigger Nintendo titles(Mario, Pokémon) or from companies like Square Enix(Final Fantasy(cutscenes), Kingdom Hearts(again, cutscenes)). The biggest games(filesize) are 256mb, with most being 32mb, 64mb or 128mb. So if in the 5 years the DS exists only a few games have been made that really put the system to it's limits, I think the 3d and such will most likely be wasted money with many games and will look sloppy most of the time. The DS isn't even that bad when it comes to music though.

Hopefully the 3DS won't take it's entire lifetime to get a few games that actually make use of everything it has to offer.

I was thinking this as well. You also have to think about the people making these games. Would it be easy to develop "real 3D" games? Or is it that the system is capable of it, but developers still have to make the 3D effect on their own?

On a different note, how far will interactivity with games go? What's next? The Wii successor will feature a helmet that links your nervous system into the game? While this wouldn't be developed obvious reasons, one has to wonder just how far these guys want to push interactivity.

I think interactivity is good up to a certain point, and I think we've almost reached that point now. When I play a game I want to actually push a button(and have it feel that way), and not do the thing I want my character to do in real life. Virtual reality is fun and everything, and can be usefull for realistic simulations, but I just don't think it would go with games very well. If I want to shoot with a bow, I don't want to start up my Wii and play Twilight Princess or Wii Sports Resort, but shoot an actual bow, not a virtual substitute. Games should stay games, and not become some strange copy of real life in which you can just do crazy things.

Also, during the lunch break today, my friends and I had this "fun" idea (we were talking about the 3DS):
A suit which gives shocks which translates in game events into "real" feelings. Along with taste and smell and whatnot. We imagined playing Call of Duty or Modern Warfare with that, and once Super Smash Bros came up... Let's just hope something like that will never exist. We all watched the Matrix and we know what can happen if such things are created (ok, not really, but still). Also, during physics our teacher actually told us that you can generate energy with the magnetic particles within your body. Glad I'm immune to nightmare fuel.

You think that a new system can be discussed without comparing it to other systems?

HAH! HAH!
