And I get out at 2:15, but then I don't get home unil 3:30. Frown I hate long drives. And you can't even sleep on the bus because you will either miss your stop or someone will punch you in the balls. (on my buss anyway lol)

Well, until my friend's truck is fixed I have to take the city bus. It takes me 2 hours to get home (6 miles). And the walk from the bus stop to my house is 10 minutes all uphill in 100+ degree heat (usually). "Winter" will still be like 80 degrees if I still have to take the bus then.

Anyways, we're *sorta* straying off topic.

Homework is to make students practice at home. The problem is teachers focus primarily on homework and tests, the tests based off the homework assignments rather than the classwork and the lectures.
That's not reasonable, though. You can't fit all the material in a course (especially more advanced courses) in ~4 hours per week of class time. The purpose of classwork is to give you enough to get you going, and provide support if you don't understand the subject matter.

Also, if you want to "make school like a job", then everything would be based on work rather than tests. People don't care how well you can retain information and spit it up, all that really matters is your work output.

Unless you're suggesting that school be extended until the evening to make room for more classwork, so you might as well be doing the same amount of work at home anyway, except the teacher has to be there for even more hours?

School is like a job without the pay, but teachers seem to be less organized and don't work as a group but feel their class is greater than any other class. It's their dormain yada yada. I remember in middle school when I was given 6 projects to do with only about 4 days to do them in, in our excelerated curricumlum at least. Do able but cmon, you really expect a 11 year old to push that hard?
Agreed, to a reasonable extent. But teachers need to get through the material, and sometimes (especially in accelerated courses - that's why they're accelerated) there is a lot of material to get through. I don't mean when everything's just "busywork" that doesn't teach or cover anything new, but sometimes it's necessary.

Also, regarding hours, you do realize that an hour is an hour right? Whether it's 7-2 (my school is 8-3) or 9-4 or 12-7, it's the same amount of time. No one said you have to stay up until x time, you can just go to bed 2 hours earlier and it's exactly the same except for how much daylight there is.

I have no problem with classwork, its the useless homework assignments that tick me off. Sorry but Romeo and Juliet will not benefit me in the future, in any shape or form. Learning old english and the definition of irony does not help what so ever. Wasn't even that good in my opinion. Reading comprehensioin and hammering in grammar should be waht L/A should be about. Not analyzing a story for 3 weeks to see "Oh! she was in love with a homosexual and killed him to stay." Then pointlessly write details about the story.

Look if you read a book, you'll get the just of it if you like it, I don't know about you but when I read a book I don't stop to write down significant details or turn into detective pomegranate to see the underline purpose of why the goose is frekin yellow instead of white. Rolleyes. And if they choose to do that, allow us to read some in class and some at home. Sorry but throwing a book in someones lap and saying "Read this, you will be quized on 5 chapters every work, good luck~" makes the book more of a procastinate bait.

I assue you, getting up at 6 am everyday (earlier than I get up now for work) is very troublesome. By the time you get to 1st period all you can think about is how I can get away with sleeping without getting suspended (Yes if you sleep in my school you get suspended, ironic much?). I could easily maintain a healthy lifestyle if school was 8-3. It's when the afternoon really begins, I can get 8 hours of sleep even if I stay up until 12 and I can at least get 3 hours out of the day for outdoor stuff. An hour is an hour, but how it's laid out really can effect you. I dunno about you but I could never, nor did I ever go to bed at 10pm. I still can't manage to get up at 6am even with 6-8 hours of sleep, even more, well naturally anyway. My body naturally wakes up at 8:30-9:00am.
