Rob Wrote:I never really understood the hate for the modern Final Fantasies. Could be a case of nostalgia, or people just truly dislike those games. I've played 1 - 9 and each has good and bad with it, I wouldn't really put one over the other. CarrionCrow Wrote:I-IX were great in different ways, even masterpieces. I decided to fix your post. Anway, besides the character design and the costume the game is pretty good.

Here are my prelim thoughts after playing about 1.5/2 hrs:
The not choosing who to heal and to attack isn't bad at all. All the cures work on whoever I wanted them to work on. The attacking isn't bad at all. You know who you are going to attack first, so you plan accordingly. No mana and all ability points is good also. It forces a more defensive stance and makes you think a couple of moves ahead. The music is pretty good. I like the change in it once you get low hp. The crown system is fine as well. Though I only have two, I can choose whoever to use which crown, so I'm not locked into a certain role for my characters. You do need to upgrade them with gems to get more abilities for them. The 3D but not in towns is kind of annoying. Sometimes trees, buildings, etc. block your path and you can't tell unless you keep on running at them. The art could be better. Most def. So far it's good. I'll keep adding more the further I go.

i just beat the witch of the north's boss and i'm enjoying it. i love the grapical style and also the throwbacks to older games (using a lamp in a dungeon). the battle system is interesting though i've barely scratched the surface... enemies have enough hp, strengths and weaknesses that i can see battling strategically will be very important.
i like it so far.

KaidaTan Wrote:They made some odd choices that I've never seen before as well, such as the inability to target anyone with anything. That just killed it for me. I absolutely hate it when games do that; it's the (main) reason I threw Lunar Dragon Song across the room. Even if it works fine I don't like having that control stripped from me. Oh well, maybe there's other stuff that makes up for it but I dunno. It looks a lot like FFIII from the trailer and I hate FFIII.

do we get to take control of some of the characters we lost again? i left their inventories full believing we'd continue playing them but every time i do they end up leaving my party. i don't like losing one of a kind items.

Polka Wrote:do we get to take control of some of the characters we lost again? i left their inventories full believing we'd continue playing them but every time i do they end up leaving my party. i don't like losing one of a kind items. As far as I can tell, the only characters you get back are the ones you named at the beginning. If you left anything in anyone else's inventory, you won't see it until way after you care about it, if ever. Characters split up with one another like it's a fucking disease. I'd love to strategize with different class setups, but it's pretty hard when I don't usually have more than 2 people in the party, and sometimes a third character that can't change class. Some of the parts where they force you to travel alone (especially after *someone* doesn't jump far enough and falls. Hint: Be a Ranger, wear an anti-sleep cape and the fire bow, and make sure to get the 6 def armor from the shop) are pretty brutal and unfair. I'm now even more angry at the lack of a more comprehensive and in-depth status screen, because I can't for the life of me figure out why the princesses magic is hitting for 13 and the magic of the guy next to her hitting for 60, and the magic of another guy later on hitting over 100. What little of the story that's actually there is alright I guess. Every now and again the main characters have to remind us what our original goal is because we seem to have forgotten it while we're doing pretty much everything but that. They still never said much about the magical crystal that talks to us, calls us heroes, and gives us hats every now and again. Seems like that would be a pretty good topic of conversation. There's really not much in the way of lore or information in this game at all, really. Townspeople never say much except their local advance-the-story rumors, and there doesn't seem to be any over-arching plot except the still-unexplained talking crystal. Luckily though, all 4 characters are converging on one point, and that point is supposed to have the magical solution to our original problem, so maybe something will happen there. And maybe I can finally have a party of 4 for the first time since the beginning of the game.

Just be sure to keep up on your defense -- it's a very important stat in this game. Polka Wrote:thanks for posting a link instead of just saying something vague that was very helpfulWell maybe if you read the in-game text a little bit and stop being retarded you'd see that there are two people that give you errands (each awarding you 2500g) and another guy that lets you open up a shop in his store and sell your stuff for incredibly overpriced. All three of the people I mentioned are "merchant lords," so they're not hard to find. Also, be sure to sell your ether and hi-ether in the shop -- they're worth a lot more to the game than they are to you.

You're OCD about collecting items but not OCD about talking to NPC's? I am just kidding of course. I just finished the game and overall I found it interesting and fun, if not a little awkward at times. But for sure a really enjoyable FF game that feels like a throwback to older ones while using a few new things in it. Kind of like FF9 did.

sorry for the double post but i just spent like 3 hours (on and off) making this and while the dungeon isn't overly large, there's so many paths that it can be frustrating to ensure you've checked everything so here's a map of the arbor tree dungeon

Got this game yesterday, stuck at a boss during the princess and other guy flash back. He's annoying and some pirate leader guy.
