Interesting story that I thought about posting in the angry dome at one point, but it fits much better in this topic.
Two semesters ago, I was rooming with two other guys in a four-person, on-campus apartment. There were only three of us because one backed out of the lease at the last minute, so we had extra space. Well, one of my roommates was a tall, slender, very athletic basketball player who bought whole milk a lot. Well, buying whole milk a lot isn't a problem at all if you can afford to do so weight-wise, can afford it, and like to drink it. His problematic milk-buying habits were this: he would drink half of it, and leave the rest to spoil, constantly. Now, being that I didn't pay for it, it's none of my business how he uses his groceries, at least until he becomes too lazy to clean up after it spoils and stinks up the entire fridge, at which point it becomes business for us all since we share a fridge. This went on for weeks, and even months. For one, I got sick of seeing a $5 gallon of milk get half, and sometimes wholly wasted just because he bought it and let it sit. And secondly, when whole milk spoils long enough, it becomes vile and disgusting, even if the lid is left on. I wouldn't really have had any problem with it had he stepped up and disposed of it himself. But he didn't. He continually let the milk spoil and waited until either myself or my other roommate cleaned it up because he was too lazy. Now, why didn't you clean it out sooner, you ask? There's a simple answer to this question. First and foremost, I'm not his fucking mother. I should not have to clean up after a lazy ass twenty year-old. And secondly, the one time I threw the milk out two days after it expired, he jumped all over me and was quite a plantain about the whole thing. So, not wanting any further confrontation with him, I just figured he'd take care of it, and I left it at that. He never took care of it, ever. The milk continued to spoil week after week. So, since I love milk so much, I started drinking it since he wasn't. I figured, "What the hell can this POSSIBLY hurt? The idiot religiously buys it and consistently lets it spoil." After about a week of this, he left a note on my desk in my room that said "If you don't buy it don't consume it." So, being the kind of guy I am, I leave a note on his desk that said: "Listen, moron. Either buy it AND CONSUME IT or clean your shit out of the fridge so we don't have to. Until then, I will continue to consume the milk you consistently let spoil in our fridge."
The funny part about this fellow is, this was just the tip of the iceberg for him. There was a case I'll discuss sometime later, maybe, in which he was charged with assault and battery off-campus. In a nutshell, he had an alibi that proved he was in our apartment at the time said assault and battery took place. Here's the kicker. Ryan and I (my other roomy) were called in by the police to verify that he was there. We gave him an iron-clad alibi and kept his ass out of jail, and he then tries to press charges on Ryan for stealing twenty cents in change out of a five-gallon water barrel full of quarters, dimes, and nickels. There's a story behind that too, but suffice it to say that said douchebag gave Ryan permission to get change out of there whenever he needed something or simply wanted to get a soft drink, and in practically the same breath, tried to press charges for it. He wasn't a real sharp fellow, if you haven't gathered that already. If this last bit doesn't make a lot of sense, it's okay because there's more to the story than what was posted, but this just gives you a little insight into this guy as a person. He's an utter, lazy failure that let food spoil for weeks in our fridge and then bitched at us when we started consuming it, simply to prevent having to clean up a mess.
Yeah, the joys of douchebag roommates. >_>
