I am very sorry you and your family are in this situation.
Even so, it is true that for every person like your dad that manages to make ends meet for himself and his family, there are countless others who in that situation completely fall apart. Some people die, others go in and out of rehab, still others are so addicted they just buuy the junk and the rest of their lives drift away.

The whole reason they wanna make it legal is so they can tax it to make money (and think of the possibilities of that! All them druggies can buy it legally and all the "medical" Marijuana can be taxed too!) Sure it's a battle between "do we need the money?" and "are we more concerned about peoples' health?" But if you're a money hungry state, why the hell not?
Of course there's also the part where people will still sell the stuff under the table to undercut the government's weed. So basically nothing better will come off it besides taxing the honest weed users. I say do whatever the hell you want as long as you don't:
Drive high
come to work/school/ whatever else you do high
Don't go about doing stupid pomegranate while high
But then again, common sense is not so common at all.

I think people still fail to see Legalization is not the way. Depenalization/Decriminalization is.

When a product goes from the Black Market to an open market, it has a tendency to drop in price. A lot. The only black market that could grow out of a legalization/decriminalization of marijuana would be a retarded age restriction, like 21, or possibly 18.

People, the point of legalizing / decriminalizing weed isn't about whether drugs are good or bad for you, because there is only one conclusion about that: drugs are bad for you, period. Alcohol, Nicotine, Cannabis, etc, they all damage your health in some degree.
The point of legalizing / decriminalizing weed -IS- if it is good for your country as a whole. The major advantage of legalizing softdrugs is the drop in small crimes. When softdrugs are illegal, like now, they still exist, if you like it or not, and the prices are insane high. Addicts of these softdrugs need to have their "trip" every x time, forcing them to buy the product for insane high prices. And there comes the problem, when you don't have money enough as an addict to buy your "savior product solution", you need to get your money from somewhere else, and in a LOT of cases this results into small crime.
By making the product available in a legal way (not the supermarket off course...), you allow these addicts to get their products for a low price, and keeping them away from forced small crimes. Another positive side effect of distributing these softdrugs in controlled legal central points in cities, is that addicts who want professional help to quit their addiction, can go to the same place and ask for this help if they want to.
Also, never forget, by keeping softdrugs illegal, the problem will -NEVER- go away, -EVER-... The only thing you keep alive with it is the small crime and the illegal drugs traffic circuit, and a lot of desperate drug addicts who can't help themselves most of the time, who stay in this vicious circle of misery...
So yeah, legalize it in a professional way!

Wow, first time I completely agree with you. And that's a lot to say.

People say is there any reason to illegalize it, but really is there any reason to llegalize it? Weed just gives people that "oh yeah i do drugs i'm cool mentality" honestly if you can afford weed why don't you get off your ass and go to the movies or something? Also, really people, you can't just follow the rules? I mean I'm in no way a white knight, but I find smoking/snorting/injecting crap like weed, crack, or meth stupid.
yeah this isn't an argument, just my opinion.

Legalizing will only make more addicts.
I'm for it though, however, I don't smoke anything and never plan to.
I don't need to smoke something to have fun or feel good, that would make my life seem so boring and uninteresting that I have to go get high just to feel good.
Naturaul Highs are 100% better and never get tiring. Don't need to increase the dosage to get a better high.
You can vouch all you want, heck legalize it. But, hey, people will still call you a pothead. And you'll just be put with all the other druggies.

Toking is actually much safer than drinking in my experiences, drunk people tend to do more dangerous and stupid things and theres a horrible attitude towards alcohol in North America causing people to get hurt/sexually harassed. Laws with enforced with drinking and smoking should be merged for the new Pot laws and everything should be alright in terms of vehicle and second hand smoke, etc.

oh i hope weed never gets legalized. it makes people dumb and lazy. legalize a drug that actually makes people productive and confident, like cocaine.

Impaired vision is not the same as hallucination.
