Chivalry: Dead or Alive?

I hold open doors for people, say sir and ma'am, and am generally polite.

It's their own fault chivalry has dissapeared. "I'm a women and I'm independant! I don't need men!" is the response you'd typically get from them. I'm not saying all of them but there's enough of them to go around with.

Anyways, for like, social situations, when there's a group of people behind me I keep the door open for the next person, and stuff.

Chivalry is really just common courtesy for a lot of people now. If you're walking through a door, and you known someone is behind you, there's no need to let it smash into them... just hold the damn thing open for a second so they can get through.

Other than that, being chivalrous gets you noticed... and that's welcome for a lot of people.

I hold the door open for people because I hate it when people just let go of the door in my face. Annoying thing is that usually, people just walk through as though I weren't in existence, or they stand there confused, as through its not natural for someone to hold the door open.

I say chivalry is dead.

I think that, for the most part, chivalry is dead. There exists examples of it here and there but in our selfish society, it just isn't what I assume it used to be.

I'll hold the door sometimes, I'll see someone drop something, pick it up and run it to them, help someone get their car out of the ice, etc etc.

Skipping the "point fingers at females" part, recently I was called Chivalric due coming back from the grocery store with my mother, as we were walking we both see this old lady with two bags on the ground just standing there in exhaustion. Being the polite person I am, I offer to help her take her bags wherever she wants to go.I am called chivalric and the old lady starts crying. It's a rather touching moment, she told me a friend of hers walked right passed her, though saying hello, did not offer to help.

It's not dead as much as it is in other forums of general politeness that both genders lack. No male or female pointing, men want to be manly and smack a hoe up and women want to be bitchy and beat a brother down.


People suck, be polite and you get amazing results.

Last year my history teacher called me chivalrous for walking my girlfriend to class every day, even though I was late to his class every day because of it. I walked my girlfriend to every class and his was the only one I was ever late to. I generally try to hold doors open for everyone and I even go to the other side of the car to open the door for my girlfriend. I try to be chivalrous even though most of the time no one seems to notice it.
