Heretic and Wolfenstein 3D were good, Doom was absolute trash. Everybody just thinks it's so amazing because it was the landmark for the FPS genre. In reality it was just a really bad game with a ton of controversy that made the genre popular and paved the way for good games in the genre to really set a foothold for it.

Aw c'mon dawg. Seriously, Doom 2 was the epitome of awesomeness. The last 10 levels in a fairly challenging difficulty level were IMPOSSIBLE. So many monsters, so many BFG catridges wasted <3
