Any good anti-virus/spyware program to recommend?

Yeah, I installed Microsoft Security Essentials, working pretty good for me.

What does an anti-spyware do, anyways? What is a spyware? I'm pretty clueless at this.

Well...you can get infected in Left4Dead.

Actually, in L4D, you're one of a handfull of people who are immune to the virus. You can't get infected, but you can get mauled badly. I just use AVG free, no worries so far. You might want to tweak your settings but AVG shouldn't lag unless you're doing a fast scan.

Avira and malwarebytes.

AVG randomly deleted files on my old computer and it became so laggy I had to reformat it.
