Interview: Nexon Talks MapleStory DS, Microtransaction Saturation
#21
Depends who's looking at it.

All games have to die, and sadly Maple is one of them.

For newcomers it is always a new game, and won't die to them so soon. But it will eventually.

I love MapleStory, I don't regret playing it. Not even 1 second. I just quit because there was nothing else to look forward to besides a red dragon mount. And I don't feel like sitting on my ass for another year or 2 trying to get it.

Once you get to the point where you find there is nothing else to do in MapleStory besides train, you should quit.

That is what I did. I enjoyed the game to its fullest. Then when it got bored I stopped playing.

Will I ever come back? Maybe... If something looks fun and worth the time.

I know I will log back in eventually to look back at all the memories.

And I will be getting MapleStory DS..... Ofcourse lmfao....

ItzTaylor Wrote:DS is old news. You can't come out with a DS version of a dieing game, especially if it's not as cool as the online version.

Good job it isn't then.

Quote:I have seen videos of the Korean MapleStory DS, and all I can say is, it doesn't look anywhere close to as good as the online game.

Oh wait, you weren't kidding? You're trying to review a game based on a single e3 video from an early alpha/beta version of a game from 2 [or more] years ago. Yup. Thats the way the pros do it!

I have no clue what your first sentence means because the sentence structure wasn't thought out too well.

So on to the second comment-

First of all, don't abuse the happy faces, they didn't do anything to you, and it is unnecessary. Second, it wasn't an E3 video, but nice assumption.

No one said I was "Pro", so I really don't give a crap how these "pros" you speak of, "do it!".

Even if it was a E3 video, it would have been reliable. You do know what E3 is don't you?

And I'll call you out on being a hypocrite on this quote:
Quote:You're trying to review a game based on a single e3 video from an early alpha/beta version.....blah blah blah
Because you neither know what the game is like. And I wasn't doing a review, it was my own opinion from the sources I have seen. How can you review something that isn't even public yet? You can't.

If I reviewed it I would have said:

"Ya this game sucks 1/5 stars..."

Which is way different then stating an opinion like:

"This doesn't look as good as the online version."

And for the lulz- WinkWinkWinkWinkWinkWink
Thanks for the...can I even call them comments?

Uh.

Quote:Review of MapleStory DS and Mabinogi for XBOX 360.

That leads me to conclude that you were "reviewing" it. And if there is any footage of MS DS from outside of that one E3 video, i'd love to see it.

And No, an e3 video fo a game thats 2 years old is not a reliable source, after 2 years of further development, it's virtually guarenteed that the product that exists now is completely different to the short demo they put together for E3.

Yes, this can be true, but it can go either way; for positive or negative. I've worked on a few E3 presentation Revs before and while there is a rush, more often than not, the production of an E3 Rev often gets more attention than the Final Rev (where I worked anyway) [also note that the E3 Rev is a very small portion of the game, so scrutinizing it is much easier]. As a side note that hopefully doesn't go into to much detail (NDA and all >.>), this past year's E3 we were working on something and had a fully playable and very nice demo stage (which I was playing on the same server of to populate for the E3, always fun). Two weeks later and we were working on a condensed stage of the very one that we had displayed for the E3 presentation; which had an entirely different and less fulfilling feeling to it.

Now I can't say heads or tails for another company; nor can I say that it will be better or worse; but if this is all the material he has to go off of, let him have his opinion for the time being, even knowing that things have likely changed. Until further official press coverage is given, no one will have any idea what to think at this point.

Bad choice of words on my part.

Like I said before, I've seen many videos that aren't from E3 on it. brb.

Which matches its 2007 trailer for Korea-

Who knows though, you could be right about them changing it in the past 2 years... lol

ItzTaylor Wrote:The company overall made 35% not just MapleStory. Take the 3 games they still have now, and divide it evenly. Comes out to roughly 12% each.

Just a small point, but that just doesn't mean ~12% each. >_> It's multiplicative, not additive, so it's averaging 35% each. If each game made 100 dollars and increased by 35%, then it would be $135 for each, or it would be a 30% growth from $300 to $405.

And I'm pretty sure MS is their best money-maker considering how large the userbase is, and how much more it grew this summer from Cygnus Knights.

Eh same pomegranate. It can go either way.

You all are as right as me. We don't really know for sure.

I swear, that looks like the crappiest DS game ever made. I would never pay more than 2 dollars for that game, seriously.
