Maker skill question

I have a question about the Maker skill. I read Isaac's thread and eos367's thread and I still dont know. Anyway, what are plates for? Such as steel plates and adamantium plates. I bought adamantium plates/ores thinking I could turn them into powders (this was before I read the threads ) but I'm wrong.

I read this and thought my Adamantium plates would go to good use but then I look at eos367's tables for Pirate knuckles and low-and-behold, I didn't find a column for plates.
So, my question is, how exactly are plates used with maker skill and are my 57 Adamantium plates useless ?

All weapons require plates to make. 50 requires bronze, 60/70 require steel, 80/90 require mithril, 100/110 require adamantium, and 120 require orihalcon.

...I'm gonna love maker. I have 150 steel plates in reserve. (It's mine! All mine! Muahahaha!)

i.e I want to make a lvl 100 knuckle (king cent) do I need to use the same amount of powders to make it (which would be 4) (i.e. 4 adamantium powders and 4 plates to make a king cent)?

Powders are colored dust that drop from monsters at about the rate of ores. We don't have them yet. Eos's thread has the recipes.

Sweet jeebus I didn't know even the metal ores will be needed for Maker. Now I wish I had made more plates and jewels instead of selling them off for a measly 1-2k per ore.

For the powder column, please note it may be a powder or plates - If it's metalic its a plate, if it's chromatic it's a powder.
