I was told it's a rising trend to not drink the stuff, since the tapioca pearls have some kind of plastic in them.

I used to drink Bubble Tea with fresh ingredients, including taro which lacks the sweetness of the artificial, purple taro flavour and tastes nothing like actual taro.

It tastes almost like sweet milk. Milk after it's had some form of sweet cereal in it. That's pretty much the most accurate description I can give.
