Just how legit is using a controller to play MS? - Mark - 2008-09-28 I stuck this here in hopes of a nice little debate. I got on my Serious Business suit and everything. Tons of people on Maplestory use controllers to play their characters intead of using keyboards. I'm not one of those people, so I recently learned that a controller can be set up to do things for you while you are away from the game. This type of action would be described as botting. Let's take a look at the definition of botting from Nexon's ToS: Quote:Code of Conduct. While using the Service and Software, you agree to comply with all applicable laws, rules and regulations. We reserve the right, in our sole discretion, to take any actions we deem necessary and appropriate to preserve the integrity of the Service and Software. We further reserve the right to determine what conduct is outside the "spirit" of the Service and games provided therein. While using the Service, you agree not to:There it is, clear as day. Nexon does not appreciate people botting. So why is it people still parade around the fact they use controllers or programs to do just that like they are the legit kings of the Maple world? People normally argue that if everyone does it, it must be okay. (i.e. cursing in game.) But thats not okay, as evident by people being banned from cursing. (Myself included.) Most people abuse Orbis PQ, does that make it okay? No. What about Bigfoot? People were gaining a ton of levels off of it when it was released, did that make it okay? No, because a massive amount of people were banned, including innocents. So just what makes it okay for you to set your controller to steal away some poor guy or girls Free Market spot while you piss off and do whatever else you have to do? Or what makes it okay for you to use the controller to spam clicks at inhuman speeds to get into a PQ? There is no justification for those actions. Argue it all you want, but what youre doing is illegal according to Nexons ToS, therefore making you an illegit player. Discuss. Just how legit is using a controller to play MS? - Matty - 2008-09-28 Omg, how can we use a controller!? EXPLAIN! Controlled + MapleStory + Beginner = OWNAGE Just how legit is using a controller to play MS? - Kawasari Mimoto - 2008-09-28 As far as how I see it, it seems more like if I can see my character auto-HSing, it's ok! Because I'm am there, my presence is IN the room / near the comp, but my character is automatically HS-ing. So the rules can be bent in so many ways.. Not that I do this, I don't even have a Priest character to begin with. That and auto-HSing makes you a bad Priest because you have no to little experience at actually training. Also in regards to controllers, I had a friend that used a controller. He was the only one I knew that did though. Just how legit is using a controller to play MS? - Lozmaster - 2008-09-28 What is there to discuss? Botting = bad. Using a control to play isn't in itself bad in any way. Also for getting into pqs. Learn to abuse the npc chat button if you wanna click at inhuman speeds with your keyboard. You're missing the point. Tons of people bot and think they're legit. I want to read their logic and reasoning for this. Just how legit is using a controller to play MS? - blitzkrieg - 2008-09-28 I use a controller, and although I know about those things that you can do with it on MS, I don't do them. It's not the controller that's illegit, but the way that you use it. I can't think of any possible argument in favor of using a controller for any sort of auto-clicking feature, but I don't see anything wrong with using one to play the game. I'm pretty sure that people who bot with their controllers don't really have any logic behind what they do.. lol Just how legit is using a controller to play MS? - Findings - 2008-09-28 Opeth Wrote:You're missing the point. The rule on botting is one of the most clearly spelled out out of any. A lot of them know they aren't legit and just pretend they are so they can use people and inflate their ego, as if playing the game by the rules is some amazing accomplishment. I've been using a controller to play MS for over two years now, since I find it infinitely more comfortable for my fingers. Growing up playing console games, I find it much more natural (plus, the arrow keys on my keyboard are in a very awkward place.) I don't bot or steal people's FM spots, I play the game the way it was intended to be played... except that I play with a controller instead of a keyboard. If I recall correctly, isn't there another version of MS that comes built in with the option to play using a controller? If that's the case I don't see what the problem is with using a controller as long as you're not doing something like botting. Just how legit is using a controller to play MS? - Devil - 2008-09-28 Did you ever consider:
In fact, 95% of the maple players try to act legit, but when you are truely honest, they all cheat in some way... Abusing a gamepad / keyboard / mouse with macro functions is just all part of it. Disabling this option won't make Maplers more "legit" then they are now... In fact you would seriously hurt the players that use gamepads normally, to avoid getting RSI at the age of 30... And it all has to do with the retarded EXP Curve Maple has, which Nexon needs to keep gaining money for their "free" game... Just face it, THIS is maple, if you don't like it, don't play it... Just how legit is using a controller to play MS? - Mark - 2008-09-28 Oi vey. Let me clarify something. I don't think the controller ITSELF is illegal. It's the people who bot with it and claim to be legit people. That's the problem. You have entire FM groups destroying the economy and no one can stop them unless they become illegit themselves. Devil Wrote:Did you ever consider: This is another example of mis using things that were given to you. Pet Auto HP / MP: Never designed with botters in mind. It was mainly implemented to help save people who die often due to lag and whatnot. Manda can't even play the game without Auto HP now because she fears death so much. F3 Macros: I don't know where Nexon was going with this, but I believe they had good intentions when designing it. Again however, the lazy people abuse it in illegit ways. 2x EXP and Gachapon are irrelevant in this. The point of all this is that the ToS clearly states that if you're AFK but your character is performing actions in game that benefit you, it is botting and therefore illegal. Just how legit is using a controller to play MS? - Pikachu - 2008-09-28 Simple version You can use a controller to play the game while you're there. You can't use it for botting perposes (auto clicking spots, auto buff, whatever). That's it. Just how legit is using a controller to play MS? - Ape - 2008-09-28 There is no such thing as legit. Nexon's philosophy of making money and keeping their "legit" customers happy is "IF YOU CANT BEAT THEM JOIN THEM". Just how legit is using a controller to play MS? - Alloy - 2008-09-29 If you do normal stuff with your controller, it's like if you were playing with your feet: Nobody will care, nobody can prove you are using it, and it makes no difference to the game. As far as I'm concerned, it's not legit if Nexon hasn't authorised it, and if it gives you an unfair advantage over other players. |
