This is why such a strict punishment for something like this doesn't work. This is why you're supposed to get less time for rape than you do for murder, to protect the victims. If you had to chose between keeping a little kid quiet after raping them and risking 25 years, or letting them yabber to everyone, you'd probably silence them while trying to remove any potential evidence of rape.
