That requires you to already have mega-evolved.
Which means your opponent will have seen you mega-evolve it and will know that you will be looking for that switch :/

Mega Sceptile is also nearly completely immune to Paralyze now, since it's immune to Thunderwave and all Spore abilities.
Considering how fast it is, Paralyzing it would have been the best counter, but now, not so much.

Dragon/Grass is a unique typing though, isn't it? It gets dragon attacks (pulse and outrage) from the old move tutors. Might still get boned from Talonflame, even if it is a little faster... but being on the same team could possibly help too.
Yeah, lightning rod for Sceptile seems pretty odd, and I'd agree it's a little out of place in a way... When I first read about that, I instantly thought they're still putting a large emphasis on double/triple/multi battles as X/Y. I suppose it's fine to give each Pokemon some uniqueness and a role in a battle that might be suited better than others, but we can sort of see what they're going for... It's still all speculation, but maybe they made some changes to the mega evolving?
I like the designs for the most part too. I would've thought they would've introduced Mega Metagross or something else for Steven? Aside from that, I'd like to see the mega forms for Breloom, Milotic, Flygon, and Salamence if there are any.

Definitely going with Mudkip this time. Usually I'd go with Torchic, but I used the special event one all throughout X and it honestly got old just sweeping through everything with it. Plus Mega Swampert looks pretty sweet!
Primal (De)volutions... welp, I was skeptical about Mega Evolutions at first, and they turned out to be pretty sweet, so I won't be so quick to shun the mechanic this time around. Besides, it actually sounds really cool, turning Pokemon back into their primal state; could you imagine the primal state of certain Pokemon? Some would be insane. inb4 Aerodactyl is the first Pokemon to have both a Mega Evolution and a Primal (De)volution.
I'm still gonna wait to see if there's any changes to version exclusives before making my decision on which version to get, but as of now I'm considering Alpha Sapphire.

May I express my confusion from giving Steven Mega Charizard when he has an Aggron?
Not to mention that the trainer redesign are (in my opinion of course) dodgy at best. Other than that, I like the new mega evolutions. Swampart hit the gym and Sceptile just took a dosage of badass. Wished Magma's color scheme could have remained primarily red/black instead of red/red.
