MapleStory 2, welcome. - Endgame - 2015-05-02 I've played every class to at least level 12. (Highest character so far is 14 since I've been so busy making new characters and going through that same old song and dance. Leveling slows down considerably after that point.) And it is clear to me: This game has a big class homogenization problem. (It becomes especially apparent when you directly compare the melee or ranged classes to each other.) Every class is basically the same: You dump all your SP on harder hitting AoE skills to use a weaker SP generator skill. Everyone is Demon Slayer. And because leveling slows down and you get a new skill every 2 levels, with the third skill mostly being utility, things pretty much stay that way for a while. I am not sure how much they start splitting off at higher levels, but for newer players who try out all the classes trying to decide which one to play, I can tell you right now that Berserker and Heavy Gunner are going to leave an early impression as strong while Knight and Ranger as weak. ESPECIALLY because the classes basically have the same skills starting out. To be specific, all three melee classes pretty much have the same two starting skills: The quick slashes for SP generation, and the AoE SP attack. (Although Thief's has more narrow range. But both Knight and Berserker's are spinning slashes.) And Berserker is the clear winner here because it hits harder with those two skills, AND has more movement during them. Thief gets less movement, and Knight cannot move during the attacks at all. So although Knight is meant to be the tanky one, Berserker can just slash and move at the same time and move out of the way of attacks. Also, both Knight and Berserker get a ranged skill as a third skill while Thief gets a straight dash. And Ranger is similarly gimped compared to the other two: Its SP generator is weaker and hits only one enemy at a time. Assassin's hits harder and can hit up to two enemies. And Heavy Gunner's..... pineapple, it's so damn strong and has such good range and piercing that I basically just use that most of the time and only break out the Flamethrower and stun bombs for the stronger enemies. Not to mention HG is more SP efficient as well due to the flamethrower skill having a lower channel cost and higher damage while Ranger will do the whole fire + backflip chain and nearly be out of SP for not nearly the same amount of damage. Certainly this is a beta and things will be adjusted. (No way in Hell is Heavy Gunner going to make it release as is. Too damn powerful compared to everyone else.) But I do believe this is something they should really address. MapleStory 2, welcome. - HighOnMushrooms - 2015-05-03 I agree, I played Ranger in the first beta and it was really boring to me, the skills didn't have enough 'punch' to them. Heavy Gunner on the other hand is hilariously fun and every skill is great (except Grenade, I never use it since it takes too long to cast for just 2 bombs). MapleStory 2, welcome. - Endgame - 2015-05-03 I ran out of quests at level 15, grinding my way to 16, got a few new quests, burned through them, and am still not quite near 17, meaning I'll have to grind again..... .....Yes, this is a true sequel alright. Yea, I'm not feeling so hopeful all of a sudden. It continues like that for the rest of the game, with quests giving you less and less of your exp TNL. I'm level 23 and all the quests at my level gave me 44% and now I have no more
MapleStory 2, welcome. - Silento - 2015-05-03 Eh, from watching Onion's stream leveling seemed pretty fast. I saw a streamer in a party of 30s less than 12 hours after servers went up. As long as it doesn't get a lot worse, I'm fine with a modicum of grind. Also, does anyone know if gear and levels are equalized in PvP? It would suck if you could enter at level 28 but you always get owned by level 40s (or whatever the level cap is). I'm sure the full game will have more content to help you level.

MapleStory 2, welcome. - Endgame - 2015-05-05 Well..... I'm done outside of logging in for merit and spending the last day screwing around with character customization. They're clearly trying to please the "bring back old Maple!" crowd and it shows. (Hell, I believe one of the GM letters somewhere in this topic even said something along those lines.) The grind and lack of rewarding quests is definitely there, the world is much bigger compared to the newer condensed post-Big Bang world, classes are more homogenized much like most of them were pre-3rd Jobs (Or even 4th Jobs in cases like Crusader and White Knight.) etc. Hell, even Heavy Gunner is the clear dominating class in the current version like Assassins were back in the day. I will continue to keep up with updates on the game in hopes that they might iron out some of the problems and perhaps refine things a bit. (Monsters definitely need to give more EXP. Even in the beginner zone they're not actually worth hunting outside of quests.) However, I did make two more videos. Level 17 Berserker grinding: Ducky mount shenanegans: Zelkova Wrote:How did you find me streaming without looking at my stream name?No one's reporting anything. I'm seeing anime girls left and right. MapleStory 2, welcome. - TheBlackMage - 2015-05-05 I can't lie but the game looks very lackluster :/ Not what I've expected, The Customization is beyond superb, but the combat and the rest? ehhhh. The skills lack the punch, and mobs feel like paper, it's not satisfying, Hopefully they'll improve the skills and combat before the launch. What else can I say... ehhh it's just mediocre from my FOV, The monsters are cool but something feels wrong with how the maps work. XD MapleStory 2, welcome. - cronnoponno - 2015-05-05 I'm really happy to hear that the quests are generally unrewarding, the grind is longer, and most importantly many of the classes have lacklustre skills. My biggest turn off for current-day Maplestory is that I feel like I'm playing Dragonball Z, every goddamn skill has like half of a screens worth of a hitbox and hits 50 trillion mobs and does quadrillions of lines of damage and looks really overbearing, why would you even nerf ultimate-spamming if 90% of the skills all the classes use can travel half the screen and do so much more damage anyway? They took fun classes like Buccaneer and Shadower and gave them big spammy kamehameha skills and mindless 12-lines-of-damage skills and all the buffs on half of the characters make them look like they purchased 100$ worth of stupid effects which definitely shouldn't be a norm. Instead of actually making interesting classes(when the potential is sooooooo there) most of them are just pure DPS and they throw spirit-bomb sized spam everywhere, and seeing the videos for Maplestory 2 makes it seem to be one of the best reboots for a game I've ever seen. I really can't wait to play it. MapleStory 2, welcome. - icephoenix21 - 2015-05-06 These are basically the top 3 guilds and their banners. #Anti-Cubemovement
MapleStory 2, welcome. - Link - 2015-05-06 This game is fun and has its merits. However, like MapleStory, playing by oneself is underwhelming. I feel like there is fun to be had by oneself, but that fun is few and far between. I'm sure my opinion will change if I can ever find people to play with or I can play a version in a language I can read. I fought a couple of big bosses today - the gigantic tortoise and the Griffey thing. This is what I would expect out of bosses in this game. They're challenging and require positioning to survive. I won't say much about the classes, as I've only really played Knight and not much of it (only level 19). So far, though, it has been an interesting experience. I'm looking forward to seeing this game in a more expanded form. I can see good things coming out of this as an MMO. I just hope Nexon nudges it in the right direction. It doesn't matter as much when CBT ends in 3 more days. Edit : Some people found me today and then I found more people. Needless to say, I got to go to bosses today and it was pretty fun.
