MapleStory 2, welcome. - SaptaZapta - 2013-11-06

It's been clear for many years that MapleStory needs to be recoded from scratch. Way too many things wrong with its fundamental architecture. The things people have been begging Nexon to do ("take a break from new classes and just fix the infrastructure already").
Why they decided to also go 3D at the same time is a mystery to me, but I guess they think it will attract more players that way.

Even so, I personally don't have much hope for this.

It might be good, it might be bad, it might be monetized to pomegranate from the getgo.

Okay then? Might as well say that ever since EverQuest 2 came out every MMO developer has been making sequels.

I expect no difference in how this game's ran compared to MS

Entirely being sincere here but have you played other nexon managed games? Dragonnest/Vindictus seems to be managed by an entirely different company than maplestory. Although I can see the perspective of the maple team kind of migrating to the MS2 team, which may result in the same problems. Just wanted to see your insight besides the previous mentioned

SaptaZapta Wrote:I am guessing it will have strictly limited service areas due to being much more dependent on low latency. That's assuming they don't make the same mistake of letting the client do things on its own.

I guessed the same, there are a number of proxies that work (fairly sure I'm not allowed to mention any here though?) for most games that have IP bans, but it'd be nice if they'd make the EU version release at the same time so it isn't necessary.

Yes, but MapleStory is MapleStory and will always be MapleStory even if they attempt to give it it's own rebirth. I think anyone can see that by the timing of this entire thing lol

Whether it's managed by an entirely different team, I think they'll still have the same philosophies as the first, and it will once again evolve into the pay to win giant that the first has grown into over the last 3 years. Just my opinion I guess, but I still won't even bother downloading the beta of MS2. Sure, a big reason for that is because I know all the people I played with for 6 years no longer play and will continue not playing, but it's not the only reason.

I'm normally the pessimist but even I find this being a tad extreme.

We have absolutely no evidence that things will be bad, other than MapleStory 1 being bad (and it really didn't start off bad, either, outside of some generic KMMO downfalls, it got bad much later). They announced this game five years ago and absolutely nothing afterwards, which implies a heavy development time, which is something that is extremely desirable and implies actual thought into what they are doing.

All we have is a generic teaser trailer and a very, very, very blurry picture from early in the development. There's basically nothing to base your pessimism on.

I have absolutely no care or hype for the game myself until I see anything other than a generic teaser site, but I'm not going to say that the game is guaranteed to be bad, because there's simply no grounds for that. It was already stated that a completely different development team is working on it, which can make all of the difference. For all we know, the problems of MS1 are simply because of the Development team is stale and out of ideas, and just milking their game until people finally give up on it.

I will welcome MapleStory2 with open arms if they don't have the same issues MapleStory 1 has.

The timing is the furthest thing in the world from shady. They announced the game was in development a long ass time before s'hit really hit the fan. It being further along at this point is nothing but expected. You can argue that they let MS get bad intentionally, but arguing that this timing has anything at all to do with it being bad is stupid.

And yeah, you can think that, but we aren't going to know until 3 things happen: it is released in america, the game has been out long enough in korea to see patches, and the american hackers tear it up for a while.

You must really like these friends of yours if you're so unwilling to make more...

MapleStory 2, welcome. - Aggravate - 2013-11-06

I'm interested to see how they'll manage things in 3D. We all know MS sorely needs a re-coding from the ground up, but with MS2 on its way, that's unlikely to ever happen.

I'm also pretty much neutral about this, really we can't really make proper judgements until an actual gameplay trailer comes out and finally when the testing period begins. Still, might look into what we've seen now:

1. The concept art inside the number '2' is overly cute and childish, kind of like Monster Life. Yeah yeah, I know maple has always been cartoonish/chibi-inspired but this art looks like something aimed for 5-10 year old girls.
2. I don't like this logo:

Can't point at exactly what bugs me in it, but the design is just generic and somehow like it would be more fitting for some dumb iPad puzzle game.

MapleStory 2, welcome. - TheHatMadder - 2013-11-06

I can't really say why, but part of me is looking forward to this a bit. I guess it's because we've gotten far past the point where our opinions and understanding of the direction of the game have pretty much solidified. Although there's no assurance to expect anything different with MS2, I feel like this may be a breath of air that could rejuvenate Maple a bit. Whether or not that breath is filled with fresh air or volcanic ash is something we'll find out in time, I guess.

Like I said, that was just my opinion lol. Obviously you guys think different, so cool beans Biggrin

Takebacker Wrote:You must really like these friends of yours if you're so unwilling to make more...
I actually have only talked to like 3 of them one time in the past year. I just have no desire to go on this game, or any other online game for that matter, and meet "new friends". I was totally willing 6 years ago when I was 17, but obviously I've matured a little more and am past that part of my life.

I honestly hope MS2 is a success, but I have my doubts. The way I see it, they've seen how much money they can drain from people playing a terrible game like MS1 over the past couple years, so what's to stop them from trying the same thing on this one? Remember, it's still a Nexon game, and we all know they like their money.

I could be seeing things, but that 2 has an orange mushroom pattern.
