After watching the videos I gotta say the customisation and character gameplay look really good. But I still can't get over the cube-based world. Kerning City and Perion seemed ok with the block theme but Ellinia looks really bad. Being the core element of this game and what allows for all the custimisation I know its gonna change, i will give it a try whevener its possible but I'm never getting hooked to it for the same reason I've never wanted to play minecraft.

Now that's just silly, I wonder if they're obsessed with cubes in this game 'cuz 3D=cube.

Just on the topic of people playing/not playing this game..

If you devote yourself after a bit of time playing the game you`ll undoubtedly have it grow on you , or the adverse effect of not liking the game..

If you give it a shot (just like in maplestory when it first came out) it will take a bit of time to get used too .. But once you know how to get back and fourth in the game easily .. and level up and check ranks and see yourself in the top 100 , and know you started in beta it will be nice .. Just like in the startups of any othe rgame you played .. It should be a bit hard at first and take a bit of getting used too .. But once you start playing and if you like it .. It should stick on you and before you know it it will be a year down the road and with continued support by us players the game will excell & get better unlocking new maps and mysteries and what not ..

Or is everything a cube because Minecraft did it and for some reason companies feel the need to reference Minecraft in some way in every game they make.

Man you guys and your dumb statements like this.. really annoying.
And exactly how does every game reference Minecraft? Excluding indie games.

Like seriously, can never win with people. If it was 'fully' 3D it'd be a WoW copy, etc. I do note one similarity between this and Minecraft (which, by the way, is like calling Borderlands and GTA the same because they both involve guns) but they both look, feel, and play COMPLETELY different Monocle

Borderlands 2 has an area based on Minecraft where you can get Minecraft skins and heads. I shouldn't have to tell you what Minecraft and Borderlands have in common (it's nothing, by the way). And if Borderlands can have a cave full of 16-bit blocks and Creepers that look completely out of place compared to the rest of the game, what's stopping people from being more subtle about it?

I'm not saying that it is Minecraft, I'm saying that they probably took a look at what's popular and made everything cubes because Minecraft's world is made up of cubes. Yes, it's a stretch but one, I'm being sarcastic; and two, I didn't see very many cube-themed games prior to Minecraft, if you catch my drift.

Because aside from the whole "miracle cubes lol" joke, MapleStory has absolutely nothing to do with cubes. I'm just concerned this is going to end up like Ragnarok Online 2, where they made a game completely separate from Ragnarok Online, then decided to slap RO skins on everything and call it a sequel. And considering the game is supposed to take place before the Black Mage's rise to power yet Victoria Island somehow has modern cities in an era where the island hasn't been colonized yet... I think my skepticism is justified.

So basically, it's Elder Scrolls Online all over again.

Also, I'm sure the Minecraft area in BL2 was meant to be an easter egg and was never going for the voxel route at all.

Well umm.. it may be worthwhile reading the opening post of the thread.

All of it looks great! I just hope it's still open-world and not instanced. I don't mind that for bosses... but I love meeting randomers on my travels haha.

I've said this before, and I'll say it again. MS2 looks more like Spiral Knights than it does Minecraft.

Yup, after playing spiral knights for almost 2 weeks non-stop, I can say the same, the only difference is that MS2 is lego based.

They used a cube structure to create this world because thats what allows for all the customisable options in the enviroments which its obviously one of their main aims, but they could have disguised it and made it look a lot prettier like dragon nest or that game we once though was MS2, yet they didn't. They wanted to give this game a different look that'd set it apart from others while also being familiar so people would see it, think of those other good games and give this one a chance, just like Nintendo did naming the Wii U after the Wii. Nexon chose to make this game look like minecraft because they wanted people to think of minecraft when looking at this (a game with a huge comunity) and give it a chance. Also, thats exactly why this game is named after and uses a couple elements of MS1 while it could pretty well be called something else.

I'm not saying it is a copy of minecraft or that its stealing anything from it, just that its trying to resemble it superficially aswell as MS1 to take off easier.

Still? Maplestory has never been open world.

It's called voxel graphics (not Minecraft-type/cube-and-button-based-testing style).

Your little level 30 thief didn't know what they were in for when they roamed to Bains. Then boom, fireball to the face, then into the lava.
