In the days where the economy was stable and 50% or more of your wealth went into buying potions, fighting anything that shot stuff at you for 2x-3x their touch damage made it actually a huge incentive to dodge their hits or make an effort to stun them rather than suffer a huge pot loss (unless you trained with a Priest... but Priests back then only trained with DKs ;/).

Nowadays with a shitty economy where mesos are worth a little more than dirt, potions don't even dent your wallet (in fact, you profit from them by selling it) and those super powerful single monsters are now weakened + multiplied by 5 per platform which makes it impossible to dodge but isn't really devastating enough to even matter.

LOL at everyone who assumed this would be from MapleStory 2 and/or are judging MS2 from this.

This is one of their very, very old 3D videos for MS, back from around 2006-2007.

Ooh, guess who found it?

As for the topic itself, I'll definitely try MS2, but only if a separate team manages it. DFO (at least in its early days, IMO) and DN have both had good, if not at least decent, dev teams. MapleStory's team is pretty much the only bad apple I've seen, besides perhaps Combat Arms' (and I haven't played CA since closed beta).

Spadow Wrote:The game you're referring to is EverPlanet and is the most boring game that exist.

All you do is search for quests and complete them. That combined with combat.

How is that any different from MapleStory? Except that most people don't even bother questing.

Are you saying that there are no bosses in EP?

MapleStory 2 - Who Cares? - Seanny - 2012-02-17

I'll give it a try, Maybe they will learn their mistakes from the first game and it won't be so easy to exploit. It's a possibility.

The only way I could be turned off gameplay-wise is if its a static overhead camera 90% of the time, dynamic camera action please. Fighting always looks dull with an overhead view. Not to mention I wouldn't spend time making awesome-looking characters if all i can see is their hats. >_>

I highly doubt it will be point and click, since that trend seems to be dying out in favor of action combat in the vein of Tera/Vindictus nowadays. but if it is, that will kill my interest too.

Lastly, there better be a auction house type system for selling items, I cannot tolerate MS's FM anymore after more intuitive systems have come to existence. If they still have players sitting up with their PCs all night just to sell 1-2 items = instant dealbreaker.

Final thing i need to actually like this: Worthwhile questing in terms of items/exp.

tl:dr, adapt MS2 to modern concepts, for pete's sake.

Seeing the zoomed in screenshot makes me rather excited. If this game does not get the gay-bullcrap that game with Dragon Nest or any other 3D Nexon game, I will be happy. Please Nexon, retain the core elements maplestory is famous for. The crafting. The scrolling. The leveling. The easy-not-hard-gay skill points, AP points, equips raising stats, NO pineappleING INSTANCES FOR CRYING OUT LOUD. Except bosses of course. Better be a god damn open-world game like Maple. If nexon fails to notice these as the key things that keep people playing, well, I don't know what the pineapple they're smoking over there. And FFS, support 16:9 aspect ratio, uggh. Higher res please. And also, as the person a few posts above me stated, no top down view, no Free Market. My gosh... that top down view is gonna piss me off. I liked the camera in Dragon Nest, wasn't too bad.

Are you serious?

No one plays maple because it lacks instances. They play it in spite of it lacking instances. Instances are the greatest thing to happen to online gaming ever.

How in the flying pineapple is MapleStory "famous" for a crafting system that was only introduced years after the game was created, was barely usable, then was gutted out and replaced by another even more annoying system that it's had less than a year? :f6:

That'd be infamy, at best.

MapleStory 2 - Who Cares? - Seanny - 2012-02-17

Its my opinion that Maple is famous for:

-being one of the first fully (as in, no trial for x weeks crap) playable f2p games,
-being one of the first, if not THE first 2d side-scrolling MMO to ever exist in the U.S. (inb4Dragongem)
-charming/cute visuals, when we in the US were used to stuff like Ultima/Everquest Online.

Stuff like overpriced CS and bad customer service came later.

MapleStory 2 - Who Cares? - Reako - 2012-02-20

I'd play it if they somehow managed to have awesome bosses like this one but I doubt that'll happen... so eh

MapleStory 2 - Who Cares? - Twilight - 2012-02-20

Id try it out, but on a casual level. Damn sure won't be spending money or hours upon hours on it. Nexon gonna Nexon.

When I was playing, the only way to level up in EverPlanet was by questing. Everytime you completed a quest and thought ''okay, I guess this is the last quest at the moment', the NPCs would give you tons and tons of more quests. You'll never run out of quests...

The difference with MapleStory is that you won't defeat the same monster over and over again because you'll get LOTS of new quests to defeat monster A in area B or monster C in area D or fix item E in area F. I don't know about you, but that pomegranate became boring to me.

EverPlanet is now celebrating their 2nd anniversary. I bet lots of stuff have changed. I don't play that game anymore. Maybe I should download it again and give it another try.

It's all about NX and hacking anyway...

Buy or hack your way into "success" and post a video on youtube to show of the size of your e-penior.

Faith of all Nexon games... :')

Do you know how depressing it is to read your posts?
OT: No. 3D is stupid...

MapleStory 2 - Who Cares? - AzureKite - 2012-02-21

I really don't think I'll get into MapleStory 2. I enjoy the 2D aspect of the current game. I'll try it out once at least.

MapleStory 2 - Who Cares? - John Boy - 2012-02-21

I MIGHT play it if they deliver that is. I mean maybe they could just throw that idea out to the trash for all we know so I'm kinda ehh about it.
I don't have an opinion on it because all I've seen is one single blurry low resolution picture.
Will it be turn based? Will it be real time? Who knows haha. So many things left that I (We) don't know about the game yet it's kind of exciting. Maybe it'll turn out better than Maplestory? Maybe it'll be worse haha. Who knows...

MapleStory 2 - Who Cares? - warustar - 2012-02-21

Yeah, I was looking at this the other day. I mean, honestly, it wouldn't hurt to try it. If they can successfully preserve all of the map elements of the 2D version into a 3D version; that'd be some impressive pomegranate. Same thing goes with specific items and clothes, etc. It would be cool if basically, everything that was in the 2D versions was recreated (I don't know if they're doing that..) and when MS2 would come out, people could literally convert their characters to the new version, but still be able to play both.

I don't know, LOL. Honestly, the sole reason I came to Maple 6 years ago was because of the 2D look. The new version would just kind of kill everything off..

This is something that honestly shouldn't happen, and is a dumb idea to actually put into action. Simply because MapleStory is incredibly fucked up as it is; do you actually want to bring that fucked-up-ness to a new game?

MapleStory 2 - Who Cares? - Ryukiroku - 2012-02-21

I think considering the years I've put on here, I'd be crazy to not at least check it out. I just won't go as cash crazy with it though.

While a full transfer is idiotic beyond measure, a concept of importation in some degree isn't the worst idea ever.

Take a look at Guild Wars 2. Based on your accomplishments in Guild Wars 1, you can be rewarded in Guild Wars 2, and also get exclusive rights to names that you used in the previous game.

Now I dunno what would qualify as "Accomplishments" but that's really up to Nexon. There's a lot of different systems in the game that could be logged together upon the release of MS2 to create a list of things that you could gain as your reward. A good one would definitely be longevity of play, and reward the people who have been playing since the very beginning.

The only thing Nexon would do to pineapple it up that ArenaNet isn't, is that in GW2, this event is not timed. It will go on forever, and accomplishments you complete after GW2 is released in GW1 can be transferred long after GW2 is released. Nexon would quite likely make such an event, if it were to occur, timed.

To be honest, I actually liked Maker. However, I wouldn't say that it's one of the defining features of MS, especially considering that less than half the current players actually remember it.

I remember how much I didn't use it.
