Southperry Pokemon League. - Marksman Bryan - 2013-10-28 I am hopefully getting a 2/3ds + pokemans on nov. 3rd and I will do this for the lulz I have no idea what like 90% of these acronyms mean so I'm sure whatever I use will either be laughable and/or break the rules is there a guide for "how to hardcore Pokemon" Southperry Pokemon League. - Slaking - 2013-10-28 There probably is one, but here are a few things to help you. Each link takes you to a relevant page about it. IV - Individual Value Randomly generated value at the moment you catch or hatch a Pokémon. Can be anything ranging from zero (0) to thirty-one (31). These values are generated for every stat (Hitpoints, Attack, Defense, Special Attack, Special Defense and Speed) individually. This value is not able to be seen directly, but you can calculate the range roughly by using an IV calulator. The highest values are usually the best. EV - Effort Value Values obtained by defeating certain Pokémon. Each Pokémon gives a different amount of EV's. Certain items can increase the EV gain per defeated Pokémon. Note that you can only accumulate up to 510 EV points, and you can only invest up to 252 points in one stat. Four EVs increase your Pokémons stat by one (1) point. Example: If you accumulate 252 EV points in Attack, 160 EV points in Defense and 76 EV points in Speed your Pokémon will get 63 extra attack, 40 extra Defense and 19 extra speed. Since I do not own X or Y, I can't explain Super Training. Which is another way to increase your Pokémon's EVs! Nature Very crucial, and perhaps one of the most easy to adjust parts of breeding a good Pokémon! A Pokémon's nature influences its stats. It increases one stat by 10%, while decreasing another stat by 10%. There are also neutral natures, which leave the stats unchanged. If you breed a Pokémon with Ditto, or with either of the parents holding an Everstone, it'll give a fifty percent (50%) chance to pass down the parent's nature! [list of natures and their effects] Example: If your Pokémon uses physical attacks only, you want that boosted. Since you're only using physical attacks, you won't be using special attack and thus that can be decreased. The nature that fits this description is Adamant! (the opposite, boosting special attack and reducing attack is Modest!) Base stat Variable in-game that determines the maximum and minimum possible values for a stat. These are fixated per Pokémon species, and cannot be influenced. Overall the higher the base stat, the better the Pokémon. Though that does not always apply competitively. Example: Slaking Extra defenitions: Stat boost/stat modifier - A move that increases a certain stat in-battle. [explaination] Hidden ability - Ability that is not obtainable by regular encounter in-game. Can only be obtained through special events, the dream world etc. [explaination] Tier - Used in competitive battling, defines which Pokémon can be used in a battle according to their tier (Ubers: Free for all, OU: Overused - all exept the really powerfull, BL: Borderline - all except the most powerfull, UU: Under Used - most not-so-good Pokémon, NU: Never Used - only the Pokémon who are otherwise brutally killed) [link to Smogon tier list for Black & White] Useful sites Bulbapedia - Pokémon Wiki, very in-depth about game mechanics Smogon - Site dedicated to competitive battling, complete with strategies and analysis. Serebii - Site dedicated to the Pokémon games. Useful to look up simple mechanics or basic Pokémon details. Probably the best alternative of the three if you don't want to get into competitive battling. I'm not sure if I forgot something, feel free to add on to the list guys. And feel free to correct me. Southperry Pokemon League. - ShinkuDragon - 2013-10-28 slaking covered it pretty much, all that would be missing for a true competitive team would be a talk about team synergy and about breeding IV's down. Southperry Pokemon League. - Clamors - 2013-10-28 What's the deadline to join? I know it starts November 15th but do you have a specific day where joining is closed? When Black Friday comes, maybe you and I can get it Q_Q. Southperry Pokemon League. - Kunagisa - 2013-10-28 Can we switch our 8 Pokemon after we get our badges? Like to fight the E4? Or do we need to use the team that we got our badges with? I'd volunteer to be fairy gym leader, but my sleep schedule is probably reverse of every Southperrian here. Maybe ghost leader would be more fitting. You can only face me at the dead of night. Ghosts are my favorite after all. Why couldn't Mismagius be ghost/fairy? There is no deadline for sign up really. It's going to be open ended, but because there are prizes involved I'm giving everyone two weeks. Kunagisa Wrote:Can we switch our 8 Pokemon after we get our badges? Like to fight the E4? I'd say just join and compete just for the experience, or at least that's what I'm doing. I have never played Pokemon competitively, just created theme based teams to battle with my cousins. Southperry Pokemon League. - KhainiWest - 2013-10-29 Updated. The gym leaders/e4/Champion will be given avatars as soon as they are ready. The avatar's will give hints towards the gym leaders strategy, the e4/champions will not give that away as easily. Kunagisa Wrote:I'd volunteer to be fairy gym leader NO and i'm pretty much gonna work like you want, most of my free time is late at night. i suggested using a bigger pokemon rooster, but in the end everyone settled for 8 pokes for the whole thing in a way it's so that people try to find the weaknesses of their team and how to cover them. fighting gyms who are forced to be monotype is also a way to see how enemies synergize. using your fairy example, using something like steel/fairy to block poison super effectiveness, and then counter. PDD: oh hey, dustin changed his mind to 10, that's team and 2/3's, not too shabby gym leader wise oh, also just got informed that while you can't change pokemon, you can change items as much as you want, so that pokemon needs more speed? take the life orb away and slap a choice scarf, need to survive a hit to be able to wreck that leader? take the choice band away and give it a focus sash. items alone can change your whole strategy. Does having 2 of the same Pokemon with different movesets count as 1 slot or do they each take up a slot? Like for example in one battle you use Pokemon A1, and for the next battle you want to use different moves/items/ev spread on that so you use Pokemon A2, not sure if it makes sense. And if it does take up 2 slots are you allowed to change moves after each battle, sort of like items? So if I have 2 Scizors, 1 is in the team of 6 and the other in the bench of 4, I can't use the 2nd Scizor to battle someone else after swapping places with the 1st Scizor? For example: Battle 1: Team [X X Scizor1 X X X] Bench [Scizor2 X X X] Battle 2: Team [X X Scizor2 X X X] Bench [Scizor1 X X X] Hope that makes more sense. So can we teach them new moves between battles, or are we stuck with the same moveset we started with? Southperry Pokemon League. - Reako - 2013-10-29 I've got a fun little surprise up my sleeve too. I'm hoping it'll be effective. I should mention, from Nov 10 to 16 or so, I'll be away in Florida, but I'll also have a vacation from work, so... if I somehow haven't finished putting a team together by then, I should definitely have it.
