Houses reduce spawnrate too, don't they? Or eliminates it completely, with the exception of blood moons?

Yeah, I'm really trying to find a reason not to move out, lol.

I recently started playing and I decided I wanna be a magic-user (I already have the Jungle set Big Grin) and I got Crystal Storm today, just wondering which spells are the 'best'? In terms of monsters and bosses I guess.

Rainbow Rod is AWESOME!
Get it regardless of what people say!

Sadly for hardmode bosses the magic set is not good enough. The amount of defense you lose is priceless and no cool magic tricks can replace that. I say this as a magic user myself, sadly it's the way it works.

Well, before the Rainbow Rod (which is hard to make) there is the Demon Scythe, Flower of Fire and Crystal Storm (which are the ones I use myself).

Well yeah, our treehouse has NPCs in it. But that doesn't answer my question, so let me rephrase;

Very high treehouse with NPCs: Am I completely safe from wyverns?

Also, I quite love my setup in my other server. Mario angel with Cloud's sword and Navi. Teeheehee. Forgot to re-equip my wings but w/e. >:|

My Breaker Blade also came with +10% size. xD

Of course his response answers your question. Houses with NPCs in them will stop wyverns from spawning.

Nah, it was kind of vague for me because I had no idea if it stops spawn completely or just lowers it very considerably, plus wyverns are minibosses.

Thanks anyway.

I bought this game just recently, and i'm enjoying the mechanics so far, but i'm finding it a little hard to get started in :/

Can anyone give me a couple of pointers for a new player? things i should get, things i should build when i start a new world, that sorta stuff. Cheers.

Note: I just killed myself by wearing a fishbowl on my head and not realizing i was drowning. I've never felt like such a noob.

A Home, first and foremost is vital to your survival. You need to build a home that is of sufficent size, (10x5 is pretty good) And be sure it is well-lit. most often i start out chopping down trees in the vicinity and building a home. Make sure you build a workbench after your shelter is built, cuz you'll need that pretty quickly. After that you need to enclose the back-wall of your shelter with walls. You do this by crafting with the workbench with wood, 1 Wood Block=4 Wood Walls. Afterwards, hunt some slimes so that you can make torches, And while your at it, build a chair/table and put them in your home. It will allow NPCs to move in and they are vital to your survival. oh and doors, always want doors. Once you have a decent fortress of wood built, you should go mining. personally i find it easiest to build a straight down 2 wide hole right in the middle of my house so that zombies wont go falling on my head during the night. Keep mining down till you find a cave system or some ore. The way the ore tiers work is Copper>Iron>Silver>Gold>Demonite>Hellstone>Meteorite>Cobalt>Mithril>Adamantite. But focus on Copper/Iron for now.

Thanks, that's really helpful!
I already managed to build a shelter and make it suitable for NPCs to live in (The guide NPC told me how), but i didn't do any mining, i completely forgot Tongue

Ah, and Be sure to build Wooden platforms, you can pass up and down through them, and it makes it easier to get up and down your mineshaft without falling a great height and exploding into meaty chunks.

Another thing would be to explore the surface. Alot of the time you can find caves with ore in them, or even clay pots/treasure chests with some hard to find items in em. Heck, sometimes i see ore just on the surface.

But if you happen to see Gold Ore on the surface (Yellow gold color, sparkly) It means you most likely have a floating island above that location, so build yourself a tower with wooden plats and see if theres any good stuff in there. All floating islands have a house made of gold/silver/copper bricks/walls, and a gold chest which usually contains some really nice items.

The "Bug fix" 1.1.2 patch is out!
Lot less fixes than I suspected.
I wonder if "Insta-Dying" Santa was fixed.

http://www.terrariaonline.com/threads/terraria-1-1-2.76786/

Quote:Hey guys, patch 1.1.2 is now live! Nothing major in terms of content, just a few bug fixes and multilingual support.

Changes:

● Terraria has been translated to German, Italian, French, and Spanish.
● When first run, Terraria will ask which language to use. This can be changed in the options menu.
● Terraria now has support for accented letters and multiple keyboard layouts.
● Fixed a bug that would cause spawn items to sometimes not work on multiplayer games. (Hopefully)
● Fixed a bug that would allow you to create items using the crafting guide.
● Fixed several multiplayer security issues.
● Fixed a bug that would sometimes cause the Eater of Worlds to not spawn after three shadow orbs had been smashed.

Have fun!

EDIT: Forgot to mention this. I took down the SP Terraria server this past week and I don't see myself bringing it back up for the time being. I don't really see the point in trying to keep a server up 24/7 when only 1-2 people log into the server once every few days to mine some Hardmode ores and then log off.

Save the map, wait till the next big/Useful update to bring it back up.

Of course I'll save the map. Would be extremely rude of me otherwise to just delete all the fun we had from 1.1.0.

I now officially hate the Blood Moon.
So I was trying to create a money generator on the SP server. It involves building it right on top of the ocean and whatnot for Ocean monsters (Jellyfish / Sharks).
Well as I was building it, a blood moon started rising, but unaware to my knowledge, a clown spawned and blew a hole in the hellevator shaft at the bottom of the ocean.
Needless to say, our right side ocean is completely gone.
I tried Alt+F4 to not "Save" the world, but apparently I was too late and it auto-saved the second the ocean disappeared.

Seriously, pineapple the devs for even adding that monster into the game.

Terraria discussion thread - Corn - 2012-01-30

That sounds extremely amusing.

Corn Wrote:That sounds extremely amusing.

It was hilarious to see the ocean just disappear entirely, but it got on my nerves REAL fast, because it dawned on me that I'm going to have to water duplicate the entire ocean back just so my generator doesn't become a waste of time.
