The awaited leeching debacle! - KaidaTan - 2009-12-04

I think the new exp formula is just what the game needs. Leechers won't be able to get past 140 at any reasonable speed. For example, there won't be level 200 Bishops leeching their own level 19x Hero because it's faster than training the Hero. The mage-dependent people will take a hit because their experience will go down a bit, but it will encourage people to party any class, not just with mages. Though I'm sure many people will still leech, there might be an increase in the number of Bishops/attackers who don't want to leech anymore and start partying with others.

Maybe it's just me, but I remember a time when Priests (after maxing Shining Ray) used to not only be able to hold their own with another like-level attacker, but actually train faster than a lot of them. I remember training at 13x at Himes on my Ranger and being quite largely outdamaged by a Priest only 5 levels ahead of me.

Grog Wrote:Do you intend on cheating on your wife and half-assing your job? Nobody's saying you can't.
I personally don't, but other people can and do. However, those people will never get very far in either of those things and that's their choice. Its not my place to tell them that they can't do those things, even if I disagree with them. I, at least, intend to live my life in a way I can be proud of. And while I'm at it, I don't see how the way another person gets their levels directly affects you or anyone else.

The inflation argument is bull. Inflation has been happening like crazy due to the recent increase in meso sellers, the supposed "meso dupe" thing that happened a bit ago, and gold meso bags. I don't know why Nexon has a tax (which is supposed to prevent inflation) and at the same time allows you to pay small amounts of real money to generate mesos from nowhere.

 Spoiler

As for the rankings, I could not even begin to care less. If, however, ranks are something that matter to you, why not just pretend the ones you know leeched aren't there? Figure your rank from there, if it helps you feel better. Leechers don't have to ruin anything if you don't let them affect you.

I will leave this thread with a smile on my face, all thanks to you, Felix.

finalbragade Wrote:Well you can still leech Rolleyes

it'll just now cost you out the ass for 3x cards and family EXP... so that BS excuse of "I find that if someone takes the time to make the money, they deserve to spend it on whatever they want" becomes officially true (seriously anyone with NX can leech) because you'll actually have to be a decent merchant to do it Biggrin

if it happens... it happens... evolve and adjust (you're a human your suppose to be good at that)

go with the flow mo-fo's

as well I don't have MDS (mage dependency syndrome) like most "high" levels so the formula won't really effect my training speed as far as I'm concerned...

i find this formula is nothing more then a step to balancing the game (considering a LOT of fellow Esperrians (S-perry-ans) constantly drag on about in game balance they should agree) in terms of "effort VS Investment".

I'm pretty much for this change...

Wait, there is 3x now? O.o

In maplesea there is. Dunno if it stacks with 2x though. I'd assume (and hope) not.

Grog Wrote:Really? Where? Nexon makes the rules, players set the standards. Just because it isn't in their rules doesn't mean its wrong.

Greg & Sarah, this issue is clearly defined, in plain english.

http://forum.nexon.net/MapleStory/forums/thread/1643603.aspx

Nexon Wrote:Power Leveling happens when one or more players agree to train in a certain area, bringing along a player that cannot possibly help with the killing, yet who will still benefits from the training. This is also known as “leeching”. This action is a player to player agreement. If this service is provided in exchange for mesos, that is also a player to player transaction.

So just to be clear, if you are in game playing with a friend or other player and one of you is leeching experience off the other this is completely between the two players involved. You may be cheating yourself by wiping away the challenge of leveling on your own, but that's a choice you have to make.

However, as soon as you exchange REAL WORLD money for this service then you immediately break our Terms of Use and your account could be subject to punishment (See next question).

Leeching is not cheating other players, end of subject please.

If you don't like it, don't do it, don't support it, but since it's clearly defined as "not wrong" you have no right to tell other people how they need to live to please you.

As for the people who keep pointing out the XP change itself - KMS is not GMS. Just because one MS has a different philosophy on how much experience should be given, or how experience should work, does not mean they all have to follow suit. There are different values in all the versions and different logic would not be any harder maintain.

Eosian Wrote:but since it's clearly defined as "not wrong" you have no right to tell other people how they need to live to please you.
Nexon pretty much does define it as wrong. What else can they do aside from tell you you're cheating yourself? They obviously can't enforce a "no leeching" rule, so what's the next best thing? This new EXP formula, made specifically to deter leeching.

So what you're saying is that when it's something you don't care about, their word is golden. But when it's something that effects you (elewands) you are willing to fight their word with your all? I am sensing a little hypocrisy here. To be clear, Nexon repeatedly stated that Elewands were working as intended. You knew they weren't, so you kept fighting their word. Leeching isn't playing "as intended", it's broken just as much as the elewands were.

Edit: Also no one is forcing anyone to stop leeching, everyone here is just airing their opinions on the subject. So I don't get where you're getting "you have no right to tell other people how they need to live to please you" because no one here has condemned all leechers to certain death.

What I've been saying this entire time, I doubt this will change their opinions though. I'd hoped someone would pull that up for me though.

Edit: Whoo did I call those responses or what? Smile

Nexon says it's ok for them, anti-leechers say leechers need to gtfo.

You can't say, "Nexon allowed me to leech, now you shall respect me!".

Just... don't expect respect from others because you "only followed the rules". Even if Nexon says things are ok to do, other people may still look down on you.

That's the end of the story of a free democratic society... Smile

....Not one of these threads. I already made a comment before on how I DIDN'T want these coming from the other place.

Is it harming you in anyway? Don't think so.
If it comes, live with it. If it doesn't, live with it.
I'm tired of all the stupid bickering going on because of this leeching talk. Who even says it's coming to GMS?

Do you live your life by this genius philosophy of yours? Do you intend on cheating on your wife and half-assing your job? Nobody's saying you can't.

There is no hypocrisy and the situations are not even remotely similar.

With Elementals they were insisting it was working because they had an unclear understanding of the technical aspects of the feature. They were simply assuming it was working as intended because they weren't actually testing it in all scenarios. You'll note they never once stated the exact scenarios of how the damage modifier was supposed to work.

This however they stated the scenario exactly and specified that it was legal.

There is no ambiguity, there is no room for doubt or questions.

Your issues are nothing more than your personal morals on the subject, and therefore not something you have the right to cram down everyone's throats any more than a pro-life or a pro-abortion has the right to dictate what is appropriate universally.

Until Nexon changes their ruling it's legitimate.
Any statement to the contrary is a factual fallacy regardless of how anyone wishes it to be.

You're welcome to dislike it all you want. That's your choice. But the point of choice is that it's personal, so let's stop the arguing over who's "right".

Aww, has Greg finally ran out of witty things to say that he has to fall back on repeating the same asinine and irrelevant piece of text over and over again? Sad

Leeching is wrong. Give me one good reason to take Nexon's word seriously.

I'm only repeating it because you've yet to reply to it. It's a pretty solid example of the concept you seem to support so much, so I wanted to hear what you'd have to say about it. I don't really expect much more than "rofl u so naive comparing videogame to real life" from you.

Thank you, Eos.

Yet another thing I'm sick of hearing. The Elemental Wands in no way, shape, or form relate to matter on leeching. I said it before on one of the other threads. Leeching isn't a game feature created by Nexon. It's a practice, an idea, if you will.

@Greg:
They can ban you instantaneously?

The awaited leeching debacle! - Eos - 2009-12-04

Grog Wrote:Leeching is wrong. Give me one good reason to take Nexon's word seriously.

Because if your statement was correct it would be something that you could turn in a ticket on, use the report feature over, or expect the MWLB to be punishing.

As was already pointed out - This isn't a feature. It's player to player interaction and Nexon is the ultimate authority over what is or is not appropriate behavior within their game.

Cheating isn't a life feature. It's a practice, an option, an idea, if you will.

Sorry but this argument isn't cutting it. Also, disregarding the fact that Nexon's word means less to me than my perpetually-thieving sister's, the fact that they aren't even close to being impartial (they benefit MASSIVELY from leechers) makes their stance on this subject pretty shady. Like AIG executives on bonuses.

I'm anti leech.
I think that players should work for there levels and that can't just sit there and leech.
Anyway, this nerf doesn't make leech illegal, it makes it undesirable, like it was before party exp.

Go look up the difference between a fact and an opinion.

I'm not going to dignify it with a response when, as I've already stated, it's irrelivent.
