The awaited leeching debacle!
#1
Hello everyone, I'm sure you all knew sooner or later that this type of thread would make its way here Rolleyes

I am very curious what the extracting wizards know about leech being nerfed with this upcoming patch?

Does anyone know anything?
Do you think it will happen?

I am personally pro-leech, I find that if someone takes the time to make the money, they deserve to spend it on whatever they want.

So yeah... Leave your opinions, facts, and other what-not.

not to go completely off topic, but as a Bishop i have leeched a lot of people, and i have found to my surprise that there is like a whole little ecosystem there are the People that get payed to leech this may/may not be a good thing for the economy (i don't know a lot about online economy's so i don't feel comfortable saying much more in this point.) then there are the people getting leeched who will eventually become high enough to help out in boss runs to make more mesos - then there are the people that channel surf at harps and ask me if they can loot the ect drops and money(im more then happy, it does not bother me) who i assume will soon become the leechie's.

just my 2 bob

We'll see if the 80/20 rule comes. I'm personally anti-leech, and I hate how the players in the game have essentially reduced my bishop to nothing more than a MapleStory version of a prostitute.

I don't sell leech, and some players can't understand that bishops can earn mesos through other means than leech. I can't even go to channel 1 Leafre without being harassed by some immature low-level wannabe, I've been defamed several times for outright refusing to leech people, and although I don't have a solid number, the people I personally run into that have leeched either suck at controlling their character and die easy at bosses, or get to level 120-130 then quit.

However, despite my own personal views on leeching, I am not against the idea of leeching, and if anyone wants to sell leech or leech themselves or friends, until there is terms of service that specifically forbids it, then I just look the other way.

As far as I'm concerned, it is a legitimate arrangement, but the leecher culture seriously need to come up with better etiquette than following and harassing every mage they see with "B>leech" because they're too lazy to train, and assuming that mesos will buy you everything, even friendship. The attitude, again, is my main issue with leeching.

Leeching can suck a nut. I hate leechers and leech sellers, and it enrages me even further that now LEGIT partying is going to take a hit because of all those lazy and greedy fucks out there.

non mage parties wont suffer if you both kill at about the same speed. so i dont have an issue if we do get the new exp formula.

Well you can still leech Rolleyes

it'll just now cost you out the ass for 3x cards and family EXP... so that BS excuse of "I find that if someone takes the time to make the money, they deserve to spend it on whatever they want" becomes officially true (seriously anyone with NX can leech) because you'll actually have to be a decent merchant to do it Biggrin

if it happens... it happens... evolve and adjust (you're a human your suppose to be good at that)

go with the flow mo-fo's

as well I don't have MDS (mage dependency syndrome) like most "high" levels so the formula won't really effect my training speed as far as I'm concerned...

i find this formula is nothing more then a step to balancing the game (considering a LOT of fellow Esperrians (S-perry-ans) constantly drag on about in game balance they should agree) in terms of "effort VS Investment".

I'm pretty much for this change...

For me, I am anti-leech on people who abuse the formula and power level that way; being given free leech occasionally is fine with me.

Besides, who's to say that the leech buyer didn't just pay a ton of NX to Gacha for their mesos? Leechers tend to be just plain lazy Maplers who absolutely suck at controlling their characters. That's nothing to be proud of.

And yes, the leech formula should be taking a huge hit when Arans are out. Leeching EXP will be cut in 1/2, which will make leeching an alternative to leveling, but not the IWIN button to leveling that it currently is now for lower levels.

I'm really hoping for this. While it won't spell the immediate death of leeching, it should be a decent deterrent.

Leeching is cheating no matter how you look at it, using "it's my money I can do what I want" doesn't really justify your cheating. It is the same as paying someone else to do your homework for you. While this mostly only hurts you in future (you won't know what you're doing when you get a job or post-secondary school) it has an effect on everyone, overall. You'll end up being chosen for things that you don't really deserve to be apart of (boss runs) and your inexperience can cost those around you. Also that it steals some of the already hard to find items (genesis 30, elewands/staves) away from those who truly deserve them.

So yeah, hoping this will cut down on the amount of leeching, or at least will be a bigger drain on them. If you're going to cheat you shouldn't get away with it, and this seems like a decent way of punishing the cheaters.

I like this, did you make it? Hurt

I leeched like 3-4% exp on my dawn warrior from a friend once, that was pretty much it for my career in leeching over the past 3 and a half years. I've been desensitized to the idea of people getting their levels without putting any effort into it so it doesn't bother me as much as it once did, but I'm glad to see this change happening, even though it'll slow down my exp rates training with mage friends. Is that a loss I'm willing to accept considering how many fewer leechers or at least high level leechers there will be? Absolutely.

Can you please explain to me how it's cheating? Because according to Nexon (lawl) it's not. That said, I neither support, nor despise leeching. I dislike the many leeched idiots that run around with their meso bought items and acting like they're the pomegranate. However, I don't dislike it so much that I want my experiece changed because of it.

Completely. If NEXON says it is not against the rules, then it isn't. Regardless of how you feel it may be an unfair advantage or anything of the sort, it's not for you to decide. It's their game, they make the rules, not the players.

That still doesn't separate leeching from cheating.

Nope. Cheating is cheating, it doesn't need to be in bold-faced red font somewhere explicitly saying it's cheating to be cheating. Party experience is broken and people are abusing it for their own gain, how is that not cheating? Only reasons it hasn't been fixed is because nexon is benefiting from it and because they don't know how to completely stop it without hurting parties as a whole.

Are you seriously that dense? Since it's obvious (from watching the way you handle just about every other argument) that I'm never going to get through to you I won't bother continuing this discussion. But don't be willfully ignorant of the facts just because they don't work in your favor.

I feel it also needs to be mentioned that even with the new formula, leeching will not be completely abolished. It may not be as widespread as it is now, but don't underplay the laziness of the majority of the new MS populous. It may detour people from buying, or even playing the game, but I am certain plenty of people will still by leech.

This is MAPLESTORY!!! *epickickz* Glitter

Really though if you don't use mesos to buy leech you can accelerate your training speed through greater equipment. Or Apples. You are training, but really you are "abusing" mesos.
Not in the same sense. But really how much skill can we apply to this game?
Timing is important, but still after a few hours anyone can get the feel of a character.

Also I will do anyones homework if they pay meGlitter

Oh I didn't realize you killed at the exact same speed as whoever you're training with, my bad.

Point is someone will always be losing out. The old formula was more balanced; If you killed a little slower than your partner, then it probably would only make a huge difference over the course of a couple of hours. What about maps that have uneven platforms? TT, for example, can get difficult to split up depending on the party. Or skeles.

And what about poor priests? They already have a pretty shitty 3rd job. It's not like they could take a plat at newties even if they wanted to, it would jsut be too slow compared to just having a 3rd attacker.

What's wrong? Can't handle having common sense thrown into your face? Nexon doesn't define everything in their game. That's the whole point of an MMO. We created the standards, the economy, and just about everything else that wasn't clearly described in a patch note. Are you seriously dense enough to believe that Nexon has no problem with people giving their character a free ride through levels that they're too lazy to work for? Why else would we be discussion this new party formula? Why do you think Nexon made it?

I was going to throw in a Harrisonized reference of some sort, but even he would laugh at your argument.
