Uhm. I don't know if you guys actually read OS X news, but at the hacker convention this year, Safari on Mac OS X was hacked first, in less than 2 minutes, by visiting a website. In 2 minutes, a hacker gained control over a Mac OS X machine.

Security by obscurity is not real security.

Mmmm, you know what I meant. Next time, try to add a point supporting your view, rather than nitpicking a single word on a post made @ 7:23AM. Also the average operator of Mac OS X would be completely baffled if they were put in front of an actual Unix OS, so in that right, it is NOT Unix.

Not true. The price of the opertating system is included with the whole price, if it were priced on hardware, macs would cost way less then a new one does, if you build have a PC with the same specs as a mac, you see that the Windows one cost less.

essentially, you are paying for a very expensive version of UNIX

Not true, Macs can get viruses just as easily as PCs. But again, since Macs are less than 20% of all computer users, there is no point of making them. Same reason why NEXON probably won't make a Mac version

Regardless of which system you use, it's how you take care of it and which preventitive measures you use that really ensure the safety of your computer. A Windows computer can be just as safe as a Mac if you've got the right person using it, and if you've got the wrong person on a Mac you can still have horrible results.

Given Nexon's laziness, never.
Look, they havn't fixed this annoying Vista/W7 disconnection for 2 YEARS!

MSEA v.94 was plagued by this bug once again on v.94 patch.

Can you list how many viruses are for Windows and Mac besides de % using each OS?

You can buy mac OS X alone and still a lot cheaper than WIN 7 you pay for hardware... overpriced ... yes

The point is not putting a Mac user in front of a terminal Unix machine, the thing is Unix commands are the same on OS X . So still a UNIX os. Windows doesn't have a MS-DOS command line? even being there you don't open it for common tasks right?
... don't forget that most UNIX systems has amazing window managers with cool effects.
and yea Sam I totally agree that the person behind the comp makes the difference.

I can't list it, but can you? Please prove me wrong. http://tech.fortune.cnn.com/2009/09/02/why-are-there-no-mac-viruses/ It's a bit old but it's a good read. There are about the same amount for the lesser used OS like Linux and etc.

Interesting reading ... the fact for me is that I've been working on mac for more then 10 years and I never got antivirus or any virus, is that luck? most of trojans and spyware are designed for win and doesn't work on Mac OS it doesn't mean that doesn't exist just makes the chance to get owned lower. Obviously if I'm getting security updates often is because there should be security holes.

How did you know for sure you had no viruses in those ten years?

I'm confused, you're saying that you get a lot of updates because of holes? IIRC (own both Mac and Windows) I get updates monthly for both.

Well windows is on most computers. If i was a hacker i would make viruses for the more popular or common os so that i can infect more people.

MapleStory could easily be ported to Linux and Mac if they used the SDL library and did the graphics with OpenGL. The only thing I would suggest prior to this would be adding support for USB style Joysticks and adding a configurable controller mapping interface.

Nexon is pretty far in with Microsoft:

They use:

- Windows Server 2003/Active Directory
- MSSQL
- DirectX
- ASP
- Microsoft Visual Studio

So yeahhhh I don't see them changing.

Maplestory Native to Apple - QSCX - 2010-09-14

They can't even fix their own coding to get rid of that annoying stutter every 15-16 seconds, so there's no chance MapleStory will come to a mac any time soon.

(Almost) all evidence to the contrary?

Maplestory Native to Apple - Jamie_Kurosawa - 2010-09-14

Actually MapleStory will not work on WINE, CrossOver, or Cadega. Both GameGuard and Hackshield require a kernel level driver in the system that can not run on WINE, CrossOver, or Cadega due to the way it operates, because none of those projects have a kernel level mode. It's all user mode.

It's been tested numerous times by all 3 projects and so far none have been successful.
