Maplestory Native to Apple
#1
Do you believe that they will ever develop the game to run native on a Mac?
With the Big Bang bringing widescreen to the game, I'm just wondering if they would ever think of implementing other changes of a similar nature.

The reason I bring this up is because I'm considering buying a macbook, and although I would be willing to go through the current bypasses in order to play the game, however odd they may be, but I would hope to someday run it native.

I know some games have done it...WoW and such.

Anyways. If anyone does run it on a mac, how have you done it?

Also - comments.

I don't think it will happen, because MapleStory uses DirectX.

Big Bang didn't bring widescreen to the game. 1024x768 is still 4:3.
It still looks like ass on a 16:9 monitor.

As for running MS on a mac, people use Bootcamp/Parallels. Pretty sure Parallels is a VM with windows on it and Bootcamp for dual booting.

No, I don't even see it happening. Mac's are such a small part of the pie (4%-9%) when it comes to computers, while Microsoft has basically the whole chunk. They wouldn't make much, if any, money after developing a client.

What about just centering the screen instead of stretching it?

hm, wow, warcraft, diablo2, starcraft2 use directx, and they have version to mac, lo, ALL games use directx, lmao.

they just need to make it compatible to mac.

Even steam now is mac compatible, but i doubt nexon will make maple mac compatible, maybe in 10 years. Tongue

Wouldn't get your hopes up. If you're a gamer, Mac is not for you. Macs are for people who are interested in graphics and design of some kind. Or for those who find Windows too complicated.

I could go on and on about the inferiority of Macintosh computers compared to Windows/Linux/Unix/etc, but some diehard Mac fan is already gonna tear me a new pimento.

Those are also all games that can use OpenGL.
Steam games availiable for mac are also utilizing OpenGL [Games on the UT3 engine/source/indy games in opengl].
hnng. There is no DirectX on Mac.

It COULD happen. I mean, ValvE did it, after all.

lol@ comparing Valve to nexon.

I don't see this happening, since , you know, nexon can't even get it to work right with windows

I didn't know that Windows/linux/unix are computers thought were operating systems, and surprise .... Mac OS X is unix. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mac_OS_X . What makes that "inferiority"?

I thought I remembered hearing in KMS a Windows 7 compatable client was released. :o

Don't worry guys. They'll release that as a CS item. ^_^

lol'd

My desire for a Macbook is battery life. They have always seemed longer to me. I'm probably vastly misinformed, but seriously. Plus, my university is entirely Mac, and it just makes things easier if I ever have to work between computers.

They all use OpenGL on the Mac version.

Maybe when developing games for Mac OS X can actually turn up some profit, until then, don't expect one.

Nexon would first need to hire people that have skills in OpenGL, then port the game and graphics to OpenGL, then Beta test, then release. Same goes for patches, every month they'd need to port the new patch to OpenGL. It's just too much of a hassle. And Nexon is already understaffed.

He meant Windows/Linux/UNIX-based personal computers. OSX is UNIX indeed, but really, those same people who are paying 2x the $$$ to Apple are essentially paying for the operating system, which operates on proprietary hardware.

If that is not rip-off, I don't know what is. And if you take that into account then, OSX is indeed inferior. Why should one pay 2x $$$ for the same UNIX-based OS that is otherwise free? http://www.ubuntu.com

Answer: Macs are prettier and easier to set up than free native Linux/UNIX-based OSes/PCs; they require less brains and actual computer skills. =)

Although I personally would argue that OSX is superior to Windows-only PCs due to sheer system-based security designs and lack of viruses.

That's already achievable from your GFX card drivers if your GFX card supports scaling without changing aspect ratios.

On another note, I'm glad that my computer classes here are all UNIX-based and graphics classes taught here all use OpenGL for starters. Open source FTW! =)

Well lets call it more expensive then, but some ppl only wants to don't care about configuring, virus, trojans, and browse internet safer. Ubuntu is a great OS but forget to use any adobe suite or any video editing software and gaming support isn't that far from Mac Os. Some ppl only want's something that just works and pays for it.

P.D: Snow leopard is only 29$ update and every mac you buy comes with operating system for free.
