Dark Link Wrote:Well Paladins ARE the "Defensive" class, so I can't blame them for making us have a ton of damage reduction or damage negation skills now. Now if only Defense actually meant something lol

Technically thieves are the defensive class - Paladins should be the protective class, helping keep their entire party safe, usually at their own expense, but oh well.
Any progress is better than where they were.

Technically thieves are the evasive class, avoiding damage entirely.

Evasion is a defensive tactic.

So is blocking. But alas, we are digressing.

Well, I this sorta applies for our new buffed up Threaten. :f6:

Not really. Weakening the enemy is an offensive tactic, not defensive, because you're specifically degrading the target, not enhancing your peers.

It may help them, but their benefit is secondary.

Sort of like pre-emptively crippling or killing someone may protect the people they would've later killed in a round about way, but can't strictly be considered a defensive action.

They seem to have given the Mage Warrior the defensive aura that would have made Paladins actually contribute to party defense though...

Yeah, that's exactly the sort of thing I think should've been in the paladin repertoire.

And that's what I was hoping for when I saw a new 4th job defensive skill for Paladins...

This game is, honestly, all about the dps. Sure, you can survive the boss - but that isn't the problem with any existing bosses - they're a huge grind to kill, you speed it up by boosting your DPS.

If they make bosses that actually require the full extent of a Paladin's damage amelioration abilities (new skill balance will let Paladins tank up to about 110,000 damage per physical hit, 35,000 per magic, plus Guardian's 40% chance of blocking damage completely) then all the other classes would just complain because they can't go to those bosses.

It needs a more fundamental redesign of how monsters deal damage before individual ability to take damage affects the party.

brb I metaphorically creamed my pants.

It's not that big a boost over current values (92,000 physical on mobs / 69,000 on bosses, and 35,000 magical). But it's just as useless now as it will be in the future...

its cruel though how they took the Guardian skill from heroes.. the reason i actually made my hero is because i love 1 handed warriors and now they seem to kick heroes into the corner of 2handed ness (boosting coma/panic which are harder to control with a 1h sword) and taking away guardian while all of the paladins skills are easily controlable with a 1h sword.
