MS was #11 for the week of 11/11-11/17 in South Korea, right between World of Warcraft (Still the biggest MMO wordwide even if it isn't in the world's top online game playing nation.) and Starcraft 2. (We all know how koreans love their Starcraft, yes? Sure, it's taken the back seat to LoL in recent times.....) If this is MS dying..... However, popularity is not equal to revenue. Mabinogi as mentioned in xparasite9's quote is at #57. So I'm guessing it's in a similar situation as in NA: Smaller, but more dedicated playerbase more willing to throw money at the game. But if you want a real disconnect between the western and eastern market, Dungeon Fighter is at #5 in South Korea. Unless you're actually talking about brood war then no, the koreans loved brood war, SC2 never took off in korea the way brood war did. Korea=/=N/A DFO is doing fantastic over there, where's the N/A version? MapleStory 2, welcome. - Endgame - 2013-11-19 Which market do you think Nexon and Wizet are going to care about the most? If it's still a top game in their home country, they're obviously not ready to abandon MS1 just yet. MapleStory 2, welcome. - Takebacker - 2013-11-19 Endgame Wrote:they're obviously not ready to abandon MS1 just yet. No one said they were? They went out of their way to specify that MS1 will still be supported and updated for the foreseeable future... The point is that argument is irrelevant, the people here play maplestory N/A, Korea's status of a game means absolutely nothing to the market regarding N/A, as shown by DFO. I don't know if it'll be shut down or what, I'm not speculating that, but your support being based off a foreign market has no power here. MapleStory 2, welcome. - Endgame - 2013-11-19 Nexon NA still keeps GMS up to date (I believe the second version in terms of updates, right behind KMS.) server activity explodes for major updates and 2x EXP events. It's nowhere close to dying. It's nowhere close to being DFO style abandoned. Yes, we're all a bunch of cynical bastards when it comes to the state of the game, but we're all still here talking about it instead of moving on, aren't we? MS doesn't really have any viable competition in terms of 2-D sidescrolling MMOs in the NA region. (MS2 won't even be competing with it for that role from the sounds of things.) There's LaTale, but, well, if you want to talk about a game that's on life support..... It's been proven and shown multiple times... MapleStory 2, welcome. - LoveVictim - 2013-11-19 Endgame Wrote:Which market do you think Nexon and Wizet are going to care about the most? Pretty sure with the declining community MS1 has they're going to care a lot more about the shiny new product and hoping that it can bring them back the popularity Nexon used to have in the gaming industry. It will be newly and freshly coded to more modern times, less likely to have all the holes MS1 has, and potentially become a better overall game. I actually expect Nexon to pay less attention to MS1 once they receive so much interest on MS2 and MS1 will turn into combat arms, an unsupervised hack all you want game. You're wrong about 2x events making the game more active, that couldn't be further from the truth. Players are not suddenly putting LoL or WoW on "pause" to grind for 2 hours (out of 168 hours in a week) on Maple Story just because of double experience. Obviously players show up more on weekends than any other day of the week, but it's not because of double experience. Besides that just shows how vapid the game is, double experience is what you think makes the players come back? How spoiled does the community need to be to get them active on MS 1? After all the exp curves and 2x coupons and 1.5x red coupons in FM, exp buffs via potions or link skills or pendants, they still need 2x to be active? Good god, that just screams to me Nexon doesn't have a creative thought. That is why Maple Story 2 is being created, because Nexon has ran out of ideas for MS 1, their latest creative idea Gollux which IMO is pretty nice, not sure what everyone else thinks of Gollux, but people still think pineapple MS 1. I don't even expect much of a spike due to RED, it will be the usual winter break spike but hardly because of RED. People will go back to LoL shortly after. Or AFK, like most my BL does. 90% of my BL just logs in and never talks or moves, they login for no apparent reason, waiting for something to happen. At that rate next year 7k total users is definitely a possibility. MapleStory 2, welcome. - Endgame - 2013-11-19 They could be staying logged on for the Willpower.
