Maybe in your imagination you can simply delete cubes and potential after people make you rich and buy so much of it but in the real world that can be called a scam and people won't stay quiet if it happens.
Do you think that, oh I don't know, the first 10,000 people on ranks won't care if suddenly there was no potential system or cubes?
People think that just because I say pomegranate which is true that it means I like how things are... Maybe try to understand that we don't always get what we want, eh?
Go spend 300$ on making your 260 ATT VIP weapon have 44% all stats etc and then see that this potential will be taken off, suddenly more logical huh? Get out of your ass, if you want to play the MapleStory of 2005 go join (Hey, did you know mentioning private servers is infractable? Read the R&R!) or download a beta client and play the game offline because that's as close as you are gonna get.

Revenue has gone up people and you can't deal with it but try watching the chat-box when double miracle time is up and see what happens and why revenue goes up.
Dead server or no, during those events you can't keep track of how much cubes are being bought and used and that's that.
Welcome to the real world... There are way more horrible people in this world then Nexon Corp and you can't just do something like remove potential systems because that's illegal fundamentally.

All of this, from me just questioning the absurdity of your hypothetical example. All of this hypothetical and hyperbolic second person drivel spouted just in reply to this post:

I don't care about your argument, personally I'm okay with new and old maple, I just thought the part of your post I initially quoted was hilariously bad Biggrin

You missed a few of them.

If you have Microsoft Word, the Find and Replace tool (CTRL + H) could do it in seconds.

Wow i'm amazed at how often you guys bicker over simple posts.

Anyway since this will be a whole new game, i'm hoping it will be as fun i hope it will can be, and i hope it's not like maplenest if you get what i mean. The whole dragonnest instanced dungeon based mmo gimmick really turned me off, i like my free roaming.

I'm not a fan of 3D games, I will try it out once it comes to Global MapleStory (which won't be until probably around 2017-2017) but I doubt that I'm going to be playing this game regularly. The main reason I've stuck with MapleStory for so long despite all its growing list of problems is because I liked the 2D side scrolling graphics the game offered.

I agree with byakugan, the potential system was completely unnecessary and was only created to satiate Nexon's greed rather than for the benefit of the game. There were balance issues even before the potential system came to be, but subsequent attempts to balance classes, monsters, and bosses post potential have literally destroyed the game beyond repair. I don't think even Nexon knew what it was doing to the game until it was too late. They can't very well strip out the potential system now that so many people have spent money on cubes.

I think the best thing they could do now would be to make the potential items such as cubes available in game, but the best thing they could have done would have been to never add the potential system to begin with. All it serves to do is make the gap between the rich and the poor larger and shift the game from community based to solo play. I realize some people like solo play, but if I wanted to solo things I would be playing a single player game. Personally the community aspect was a huge part of the initial draw of the game for me.

I think Nexon should have made MapleStory 2 more true to the original, but without all the things people hate about it such as potentials. I think a big part of the reason for MapleStory's success was that it catered to a niche of gamers who weren't interested in the mainstream 3D dominated MMO market. I could be wrong, but it depends on a lot of factors. We will have to wait and see, but I'm personally not interested in a 3D MapleStory, especially when there are games such as Guild Wars 2 and World of Warcraft which already dominate the 3D MMORPG market.

I don't completely hate the potential system. Honestly, part of what does make Maple Story fun is how many ways an item can be upgraded. If you look at old Maple Story (and a lot of newer games), all you could do to enhance an item was one thing- scrolling. Back in the day, once you'd scrolled your weapon, hat, overall, shoes, gloves, and cape, you were pretty much done unless you were shooting for a better scrolling job.

With potential, there's so much more room to upgrade. Okay, the power creep portion could have been toned down a little, given that boosts from a well-cubed legendary item are ridiculous, but at the same time, now I have a few equip slots worth putting good scrolls to AND like 10+ equip slots to work the potential of. Except...GMS doesn't let free players earn cubes in any way. Well, I suppose the occults are out now, but that's not nearly good enough to allow players to join the more competitive ranks. I much prefer when cubes have like, a 0.2% chance to drop from any monster kill, allowing players to slowly accumulate them over time, or even just go farm monsters of a nice spawn rate to try and get more.

I think only two simple changes are needed to make potential good for the game.

1) Remove the rare tier for regular potential completely. Keep rare rank for bonus potential and maybe increase rates it appears on new gears. This helps the unfunded massively because rare has always been nothing but a hurdle to cross, and it makes getting good equipments a lot easier if things always reveal epic without having to risk using a scroll to get there.
2) Implement the weapon point system that zero has to the rest of the game. Cubes won't cost anything and will still bring you to legendary, but a lot of cubes will still cost what it does since weapon points will be limited. Cubes become the shortcut it should have always been, while all it provides will be a large amount cheaper if you have the dedication for it. Bonus potential reset not available, or occult cubes for bonus potential should be made.

Nothing else.

The problem is obvious with this. One of the things people seem to enjoy, in this game as well as others, is to upgrade to new shiney toys. The potential system and the other more costly options makes it extremely unrealistic.
Ideally, a release of a new set of accessories or armor should be celebrated by the players.
As it is now, most of us see how much it would cost in real money to upgrade and sigh to ourselves, walking away.

When all we had was +7 scrolled weapons at the top, it would not be a monumental investment to switch it out, merely a question of how good we were at accumulating Mesos.

Back on topic, I don't think this monster art has been posted here yet:

 Spoiler

Birks and... some new monsters?

MapleStory 2, welcome. - Arrol - 2013-11-13

Why does those mummy looking things remind me of a Zubat in gauze?

MapleStory 2, welcome. - Mazz - 2013-11-13

I always hated Birks. :c

MapleStory 2, welcome. - CarrionCrow - 2013-11-13

So, it'll be even more chibi than the current Maple? I don't think I could handle that.

MapleStory 2, welcome. - Justin - 2013-11-13

The one in the back isn't a birk... what is that? "A wolf in sheep's clothing"??

Now when I paid attention it, it actually looks like a girl with blue eyes.

Nexon rarely uses "serious" artwork to promote maplestory. Doesn't mean there wont be.

BTW... I hope this game gives more relevance to Balrogs. I always thought we'd one day go to King Balrog's castle to save that kidnapped beggineer
Sad

If those ARE in game graphics, it reminds me of dragonica too much... I'll still give it a shot, of course.

The graphics looks very cute, I hope the game's character graphic design looks like that.

I like that cute art style.
