Do you believe in mental abilities? Do you have any?

Do you believe in mental abilities? Do you have any?

Please, no "yes/no", and no "just because....".

No fire. No flaming. No Redface.

Constructive answers.

--------------------------------

Many people have done telekinesis, telepathy, etcetra.

Even though there is no scientific evidence of these ..abilities, they exist.

A child develops a telepathic bond with it's mother while in the womb. Some are stronger, some are weaker. If you don't believe me you can try it out. I would've... but my mother died, and I'm too shy.

Whenever your mother is away, do you feel like she's calling you or do you feel like she's right outside the door? That's the telepathic bond.

Empathy. All humans are empathic, especially with your close friends and family. When your friend is sad, you probably know, right? Even when you're not looking at him/her? I can tell my mother is mad at my brother even when they're at the other side of the hall. But when I try to tell I always get it wrong. Interesting...

As for what abilities I have, I can only say:

I have a pretty strong mental voice; or rather a "speaker". I always talk to myself that way; I'll be darned if anyone doesn't have a mental voice. It's the basis of human thought.

I can also "impose" my...thoughts into my vision (it's very very faint though. but it's visible.)

That's all I have to say.

Constructive answers, constructive criticism.

The only mental ability I have is sensing lightning strikes before they occur. That, and I can predict something wrong is going to happens like a day before it happens.

But aside from that I have no mental bonds with anybody. I never was able to bend spoons or tell what the hell my family members are thinking.

I thought this was the Intelligent Discussion forum, not the Ridiculous Nonsense forum.

Please remake this where it does not stick out like the sore thumb of irrationale in the field of reason and knowledge.

I don’t really see how most of what you said is a ‘special ability.’

Like telling if someone is sad, that’s a pretty basic thing.

that's not easy for everyone, plenty of insensitive people out there

i'm pretty sure that people who are sad are not necessarily "have a down-turning mouth" or "have tears coming out of their eyes" and people who have those are not necessarily sad.

At the first, yeah, I have that too. However, I have more than one, and I tend to end up arguing with myself in my own head, which sometimes makes me look utterly retarded when people look at me.

At the second, I can do that too. Sucks when I daydream, because I usually end up making myself sad.

I can also have more than one voice. But I have full control of them. No arguing in my head. Not too frequent anyway.

@Kirov: When you're not looking at them. Or even listening.

Well yeah I know that sad people don’t go around with a frowny face weeping tears all the time. But that doesn’t mean you have special abilities if you are able to tell they are sad. The more time you spend with different people the more you understand about how they feel and think and the more able you are to distinguish things. It’s just a basic part of being human nothing special really. Just because some people have a hard time doing it doesn’t make the ones that can special. It just makes them normal.

AngelSL Wrote:@Kirov: When you're not looking at them. Or even listening.

I’m not even going to answer that.

I don’t really see how you can group being empathetic, having an inner monologue and being able to visualise things with the likes of telekinesis. I can do all 3 does that mean I am some sort of super human, I think not.

Perhaps if you discussed things more along the lines of photographic memory etc you would have got a better discussion.

That does not sound very fun =(

There's plenty of "evidence" for these so-called psychic powers if you looked at such sources like Ripley's Believe it or Not.

I think one possible attempt at explaining a good number of these abilities that the OP described can be found in "Blink: The Power of Thinking Without Thinking." The author pulls out a few examples that seem extraordinary. For example, a team of firefighters combatting a blaze when it's not going out, then the captain suddenly decided to get the team outside of the building just because something seemed wrong. Moments later, the whole entire floor collapsed to reveal a basement! Of course, the fire was down there >_>

What's with all the trollan' in this thread `~`

For angelsl, your post leaves room for little discussion because it lacks examples, scenario and cases. Some bonds with mothers are stronger than others; I've never felt any telepathic connection to anyone. I do however read about cases of psychokinesis. So something exists somewhere and is unexplained.

That sort of thing isn’t exactly that unheard of. Isn’t it because his sub conscious is picking up on all the signals around him but he isn’t aware consciously. He is an experienced fire-fighter so he will have had lots of experience to sub consciously rely on. That sort of thing is quite interesting though.

The subconscious is a cool thing. For me, mine picks of on cues in people's body language, voice tone, and facial expression to tell their mood and things like if their lying or not. If anyone's being sneaky, i can subconsciously tell. It's not a super duper "Mental ability," It's just the way I analyze the world. Getting bad feelings is something that's not uncommon though. Before my grandma died, i got a bad feeling the day before. When there was a tornado in the next town close to my town, i was hiding in the basement crying (I'm mortally afraid of tornadoes.) I didn't even know there was a tornado, i just knew i needed to be down there and i was really scared. Maybe i picked up on the atmospheric conditions subconsciously before that, and i deduced a tornado was going to happen, but other then that i can't say why i felt the way i did. So, lol, i agree with Kirov.

I believe so called "Mental abilities" are just normal brain functions. Some people notice them, some people don't.

I can say I dont want to do something and that it wont be worth while, and then it turns out something messed up and its A WASTE OF TIME. Or, telling whats a bad idea.

EG: At epcot once, it was late at night. My family wanted to go on the monorail, but I didnt want to go. I said it would be a waste of time. Then we get up to it, and waited in line, and turns out one of the trains shut down. WASTE OF TIME. Big Grin
