How do I unassociate file types?

Best way to re-associate file types / folders / menu functions with winamp is to completely uninstall winamp (remember to backup the winamp skins/plugins, in the winamp folder if you installed any), and completely re-install it.

Manually assigning it is hell...
I never understood why Microsoft never made a special (good/pro) tool for it...

OH LAWL. They would obviously not make a special tool for Winamp, since it's a product by Nullsoft, not Microsoft.

Right click Winamp. Go to Options -> Preferences. Or press CTRL+P when you have Winamp on your focus.

Go to File Types


Now that I read the rest of your post, your topic title has nothing to do with associating file types.
Go to Jump to File -> Shell Options in the Preferences menu

The bottom frame, select the bottom two Play in Winamp and Enqueue in Winamp

I tend to use registry functions because I feel it's more reliable, lol.

[spoiler=JoeTang's approach is easier. If that doesn't work, click.]Go to the command line (windows button + r) and type in "regedit"

A lot of pomegranate here, I know. Go to the HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT-directory there, and open it. Scroll down (or press D and then I) until you find the Directory-directory (lol). It should look something like this:


Now, we right-click the shell-directory:


Now, change the key-name to something you associate with Winamp. Most convenient is "PlayWithWinamp" or "Winamp.Play", but any other name works, really. I'll use "Winamp.Play" here.
Open up the directory, and you'll see an item listed with the Name "(default)" in the right area. Double-click that one.



Write in something like that, it'll be what the shortcut will be named in the context menu.
Now, right-click the directory you made, and make a new key. Call the key "command", and change the "(default)"-key stored inside to the following:
"C:\Program Files\Winamp\winamp.exe" "%1"
with the quotes. If you have the winamp-folder somewhere else, change the first part of the key into the place where you have placed your winamp.exe-file.

In the end, you should have something like this:

You can do it manually in regedit! I remember that i had some fun with filetypes in regedit a long time ago n-n I changed so that i could create jpeg files on the fly :]

Did you try uninstalling > restarting > reinstalling Winamp it already?

Most people aren't that used with regedit If you messed up the usual way of opening a folder, wouldn't that require some changes of the binary EditFlags? I'm quite unsure, haven't worked that much with it.
