New Maplestory Elements?
#1
Maple has 5 elements-
P H I L F
Poison Holy Ice Lightining Fire
-
How would you guys feel if any new classes/monsters gained NEW elements:
Dark/Unholy
Water
Earth
Wind
etc..

I think if there were any new classes that new elements may be nice.
...
Also I'd like to see more trainable monsters weak to poison, lighting, fire, ice, and holy in that extact order.

If they were going to add new elements, they would have done it with Cygnus. I don't think it will ever happen.

People are probably better off modifying the existing element set to make more enjoyable gameplay than adding new dimensions to elements/gameplay.

Rather than add more elements, I'd rather see them make use of the existing ones better. Right now all they do is randomly assign some fire, ice, and holy weaknesses (and the fire usually gets shafted the most), and ignore lightning and poison. Then for bosses they just make everything have immunity or res o_o

Some monster patterns concerning attributes...
--Fire: Lots of monsters are weak to fire, but lots of monsters also resist fire. A few (like less than 5, not %-wise) are immune. There's a strong correlation between fire weakness and ice resistance, and vice versa.
--Ice: Few monsters are weak to ice. But lots of monsters resist ice unfortunately, and even a large handful of monsters are immune. Ice also seems to be the favorite element when it comes to slapping an elemental weakness to some important monster, usually bosses. Most ice-based attacks tend to be weaker than normal (except maybe Blizzard (AM)).
--Lightning: It's ... boring. More monsters resist lightning than are weak to it however, but at least none are immune to it ... yet. Lightning largely has no effect.
--Holy: Lots of monsters are weak to holy. It's highly comparable to fire in this regard. But there are few monsters resistant to holy, which makes holy a winning element in regards to damage. I think only Geist Balrog and Bigfoot is immune to holy.
--Poison: Um, I never did any tally or summary of this element at any point in my Maple career xD (LOLPaladinLOL)

Making bosses resistant or immune to given elements just makes it way worse for element-reliant classes, and this has been an intense subject of debate. Imo, elemental weights should be redone in the formulas so that all classes can get some fun out of bossing. Or at least make it so that having elements gives you some advantage over non-element users in certain situations, such as a monster being only vulnerable to ice or fire, immune to everything else including non-elemental weaponry.

That would be so much work. But, it's always possible.

no new elements.

however, more poison weak monsters need to happen. at the moment i think there is... 11? poison weak monsters, and most of them aren't even trainable. griffey is the only poison weak worth noting, and until thirty seconds ago when i checked HS, i didn't even know that.

lightning users at least get vikings, HH, anego (lolpaladins...) and a couple others worth training on.

A lot of monsters are weak to Fire, but Fire in general is an inferior element to Ice/Holy because it has no special effect on monsters and the additional power over Ice is usually negligible. This is different for Paladins since they're a melee class and they already have plenty of disabling ability, but it doesn't work out too well for other classes that use Fire. A large number of Rangers don't get Inferno (lame), Phoenix is vastly inferior to Frostprey and only has 10% more damage as compensation, Flamethrower has even less range than the pitiful range of Ice Splitter for some reason, Explosion does less damage over time than Ice Strike, is slower, and has a delay before casting, Meteor Shower does the same thing as Blizzard but doesn't freeze... Ugh. I hate how my favorite element sucks so badly.

Poison and Lightning are also neglected elements, but at least there's Poison Mist, and Lightning is just as good as neutral on just about everything but bosses since there isn't much that resists or is weak to it.

Problem I see with elements in this game is that they're used as a disadvantage, not as an advantage (except maybe Holy). They're elementally challenged.

More monsters are resistant than weak, especially at bosses.

The only thing that adding more elements would do is screw paladins over more than they already are.

Exactly. But, look who we're dealing with; the elementally weak Nexon company, =[ I would like to see a boss that is weak to all elements and with such low magic defense that Max CL and paralyze do like 30k+ without elemental weapons which, by the way, are not even that great because bishops hog the few Lv. 130 staves out there for the MA nothing more. They should add the holy reduction and any bishop who whines because they have wasted 600m+ on a staff that would screw them over could SMD because they were made for us. Seriosuly though, lukless bishop + pretty much any weapon a mage can use lukless(ie. umbrella shine wand wisdom staff possible doomsday) is all they really need.

Um, monsters DO have Dark/Unholy. Isn't that why they're weak to holy/affected by heal?

Also, yes, elements are fairly ineffectual right now. =/ I had a lolfp, and I've been training on Grupins/Samihos since 6x. (Level 72 now) There just aren't enough good elemental monsters to make a difference.

Don't ever say 'never' when it comes to an MMO, an MMO is ever-expanding and you never know what could happen. I'm surprised they have 'Holy/Light' as an element, but not 'Darkness', I find that kinda dumb.. Dark Knights doesn't count because they don't use Dark-elemental magic. In another MMO that I play, there was a Darkness-elemental skill that when used, does as much damage as a Light skill, but it works in opposition, so it'd do more damage to Light monsters, vice-versa. But for the Dark-elemental magic skill, there was a 50% chance of the monster being OHKO'ed instantly after it gets hit. ;]

you should really have changed to ghost pirates or dual ghost pirates using fire arrow... i went on those from 61 to 80.

Yeah, the Forgotten Path is pretty special for White Knights >_>

Elder Wraiths - Ice Immune
Stormbreakers - Lightning Immune
Firebrands - Fire Immune

And yes, there is a platform where all 3 can spawn D:

Oh and Leprechauns are Ice-immune too afaik.

Actually, there's a storyline reason for that. Everyone that tries to do dark magic becomes evil, creates an evil something, or something to that effect. Faust was a result of Grendel screwing with dark magic.

Still doesn't mean you can't be a Dark-magic user, imo. They could make a seperate storyline or class system for that, albeit, slightly different than the other mage classes. :/

The ordinary Zombie Lupin are Grendel's fault. Faust is caused by Reef/Leef, who was sort of snubbed by Arwen and set a huge curse.

But yeah, in general this is true. Shammos turned into an ugly demon thing for messing with dark magic. The Hobi in the minar forest are hinted to be related to this as well (I'm hoping Hobi's Monster Book entry will clarify this). Grendel's foray into dark magic led to the Zombie Lupins. Those are the best examples, there are a few others (I want to say Book of Ancient is dark magic, too, but I'm not certain)

On the other hand, I get the feeling that if they make Black Magician loyal classes (The opposites of Cygnus, as was alluded to in the Korean developer interview) that the mage will, naturally, use dark magic. Also don't forget that the Nightwalker's sprite is dark-powered. I'm guessing this allows Nightwalkers to use dark attributes without being corrupted themselves since the power is actually the sprite's. So yeah, in some ways they already have done this.

But then, according to your info, then wouldn't that mean the Sprite Summoning is the one doing Dark-elemental attacks, and not the character? <_< Because judging by the class, it's hard to tell if they're doing Dark-elemental attack with Triple Throw too. :X I'm not even sure if they 'Vampire'-skill is even Dark-elemental either. Regardless, if they're supposed to be Dark-elemental (the Cygnus Thief class), it's a pitiful excuse for Nexon to say "Hey, we added a class that can use 'Darkness'-elemental skills!" .... <_<
