When my laptop connects to the router, the desktop computer loses connection.

So we just got a new laptop for Christmas Big Grin While I am very thankful for it, it has this extremely irritating problem where every time it connects to the wireless internet, the desktop loses connection to the internet for a second. This is extremely annoying, especially when playing MapleStory, and will prove to be a bigger issue during Horntail, Zakum, PQs, etc. Does anyone know what the problem is? This laptop will be used alot by my sister and dad, and it would certainly be annoying to have to connect back MSN, AIM, MS, etc. everytime they want to use it.

Thanks in advance!

if you can post the make and model of the wireless router then people can help you more.

Haha sorry, here it is.

It is a Linksys Router, model WRT54G.

This may not be understood in the original post, but I wanted to clear this up: It disconnects my desktop for only a few seconds, then both are able to use the internet.

I would first upgrade the firmware MAKE SURE YOU SELECT THE RIGHT REVISION:

Guide here: http://www.wrtrouters.com/guides/upgradefirmware/

MAKE SURE YOU DO THIS WIRE CONNECTED TO THE ROUTER THOUGH ETHERNET

Then reset the router to factory defaults: Guide : http://technicallyeasy.net/2008/01/how-t...-wireless/

Then, set up the wireless again: http://technicallyeasy.net/2007/09/secur...ss-router/
