Axe Fighters
#1
I was just sitting in history class today and we were talking about the Anglo-Saxons and their form of weaponry, which just so happened to be a large 2 handed axe...more commonly known as the "battle axe." For some reason the whole "battle axe" look and style of fighting intrigued me...to the point of making this topic Cool

I have a level 27 Pirate in Demethos and since it's almost Christmas break...I figured maybe it might be a good time to start one. I do like my Pirate, and I do want to continue it...but I'm considering taking on a 2 handed Axe Fighter in addition. I have NX and over 5mill...so enough to fund (especially with meso bags). I'm just trying to get a feel for the class and what you warriors think of them. I had a friend who really loved 2h axe fighters, but I never played one myself. I've played spearmen...but their speed bores me. I've gotten bored with lots of the classes, which is why I started a Pirate to hopefully make MapleStory interesting and exciting again. I appreciate any input you guys can give.

Thanks,

-Savage

If you play an Axe Fighter, get use to Nexon raping you. See Hero skill "Brandish". Dx

I had a Axe Fighter and let me tell you.

FUN AS HELL.

Very original, and if you are funded, people will give you compliments. So easy to scroll nice nice axes too.

I dunno about that anymore. o_o

Hero 2h sword Brandish 80,152 86,626 95,419 103,126

Hero 2h axe Brandish 76,246 82,404 90,769 98,100

Keep in mind that those numbers were pulled with a 2h axe that was only 2 att above the 2h sword, where actual axes can be scrolled much higher because they're cheaper.

Part of me thinks I'm doing what I always do: making a new character when another is already low leveled...thus fucking myself. D:

If you don't think you'll get to that high of a level and/or you don't mind doing less damage with Brandish than a Sword Hero would (though it becomes a larger gap when Fast-speed Swords are involved), you'll be fine making an Axe Fighter. They're really easy to train and incredibly cheap to scroll for. I know I enjoyed mine (Waifle).

How is the training speed? Faster than a gunslinger or cleric?

I wouldn't know about training a pirate as I never have and probably never will, but I on average, I'd say I trained only a wee bit slower than a Cleric would've. Once I got to 70, though, I was able to pull off 30-40% an hour at Wolf Spiders. Hell, at 81 I still got at least 20% an hour there. All-in-all, yeah, it was fast.

Do you think it would hurt just making it as a secondary character to see how I like it at this point?

I don't see any harm in giving it a try...the problem is finding a name now Eek

I always thought Macuahuitl or WroughtIron would be good ones for an Axe Warrior. If you want either, lemme know.

I really like crusaders and I think they're one of the easiest to adapt to classes. They are all around powerful (coma, ps/sb with final attack) but it is 120+ where I think they begin to shine. They certainly make a fun side project, because with little to know funding you can be hitting 2K per PS in rapid succession by level 35.

As for names, one of my earliest role models was StinkingFear. Teutons is my 1H sword hero, and SpartanDream is my brothers axe crusader.

[COLOR="DeepSkyBlue"]Well if you plan on goinf past 120 going axe hero is weaker than going sword...
i belive that you need to have a 16+ atk advantage over a sword to have equal dps past 120 (and the atk speed of higher lv axes is slow >< so you practically need a perfect colonian axe to equal a 110 atk sword)
i was an axe sader till 110 then i switched to sword but being hybrid is kinda fun anyways Tongue

I recommend getting one character to 4th job before working on others (unless theyre going to be mules of some sort).

I'd probably pick a Corsair over an Axe Hero. Corsairs are just so fun looking, but getting there is the battle.

That's all well and good, but some of us don't find that dream class until we've tried to raise a few different ones. Hell, even within the same class, a different BUILD can make all the difference.

And sometimes you just feel bad selling off that pile of equips that just seem to scream "Make a character for me!"

You should make an Axe fighter because you want to or you want to be different. Also with wind infusion(and without) my friend(who was unfunded) was out damaging most sword fighters in cpq, and because his scrolls were really cheap he could afford to re-scroll every time he gained a better weapon.
And if your feeling bored with maplestory, might I suggest doing all the available quests from 1-200(if you plan to reach 200). On KMS there were tons of quests to do and they made maplestory much more fun for me, on GMS it did the same thing. It may not work for you but its worth a try.(Be sure to read the npc text!)

The difference between sword and axe is identical to the difference between sword and BW. A Hero told me that Brandish uses thrusts, where axe will lose 40% of its damage.

No.

2h Sword: 4.6 average multiplier (Fast5,Normal6)
2h BW: 4.24 average multiplier (Normal6,Slow7)
2h Axe: 4.1 average multiplier (Normal6,Slow7)
1h Sword: 4.0 average multiplier (Fast4,Fast5)
1h BW: 3.92 average multiplier (Normal6)
1h Axe: 3.8 average multiplier (Normal6)

I was talking about the 40% damage reduction on thrust, not the damage multiplier O.o
