Lack of updates more than likely. The "Latest Act" update they show on the main page is from September 19th, 2012.

Way to rub salt in the wound, Nexon. ;_; The reason I got into DFO in the first place was because of the Maple event that had us try it out to begin with.

Item Guard seems like a rather pointless and confusing item for a brand new account to receive.

Oh my, I know quite a few of my friends who are going to be sad about this. Although I'm not surprised about DFO closing down considering it's popularity was dwindling around a year ago. Although I played extremely casually I guess my level 21 monk will qualify me to participate.

Only if it's on a different account than your Maple one. Has to be an account that has no Maple chars over 20.

This happens when you leave this games open only to USA and Canada ~

It wasn't sudden. The player base of DFO all expected it to happen. The game has been dead for several months. The hopeful ones wished for a big update from DnF (Korean version) that's similar to BB in Maple, because DFO wasn't updating for so long.
Nexon has said that they want to "enhance other game offerings."
