How is it that there isn't a thread about this here?
[SPOILER=Season One info (READ IF YOU HAVEN'T PLAYED IT)]
Telltale's The Walking Dead came out on April 24, 2012 for PC and Mac, promising a five-episode "season" of death, zombies and emotions. Since then, three more episodes have come out. The season finale is going to be released tomorrow for PSN, and Wednesday for 360, PC, Mac and iOS. A second season has already been announced, and a full retail version containing all five episodes will be released on December 4.
By purchasing the game right now, you can most likely get the season pass containing all five episodes of the first season.
The first season focuses on Lee Everett, a criminal who's being taken to prison when he comes face-to-face with the zombie apocalypse. The game is a point-and-click adventure, focusing on puzzle solving and investigation more than actual combat (although there is some).
What makes this game so special is that it tracks your progress throughout the season (or possibly throughout multiple seasons?). That seems almost standard fare with games such as BioShock and Gears of War, but your choices in this game have very visible consequences. Some of them don't seem so, but others pile up until you're smacked in the face in Episode 4 with decisions you made in Episode 1. The storytelling is very masterful from the four episodes I've played of it, and the gaming media in general has been very ravey with this game. Emotions abound.
Here's a link to the Steam page for this game.
I have been recommending this game to absolutely everyone I know. Even those who don't play videogames. It's the best game I have played this year, hands down. Please, give it a try! I ensure that it is very, very deserving of your time and money.
For anyone who's already played, please put all discussion within spoilers. You already know the delicacy of this storyline; don't ruin it for anyone else!
