That last part is important. Megaupload’s founder believes that this “free music” business model has the potential to decrease music piracy. It won’t be the solution preferred by the major labels, but artists should be encouraged by the offering.


The service was supposed to launch about a month before Megaupload was analplundered by the RIAA, which would be hurt by such a service's existence. It'd be awesome to see it come to light and see if it works out as planned, and actually quite interesting to see if it indeed makes a big enough impact that it forces change in the record industry.

Spotify already does free music supported by ads. Megabox is not the revolutionary application the article is making it out to be. Also, replacing other sites' ads with your own is kinda scumbaggy.
