I'm a Magician. I was thinking of going for Ice/Lightning, but I'm not sure if I want to become a Cleric. What are the perks to becoming a Cleric? And is Ice/Lightning the only kind of Mage that can attack multiple targets at once?
I don't think I'm going to become a Fire/Poison, but if theres a good upside to that you can tell me...

Clerics can attack multiple targets at one in second job, but only undead monsters (all mages can attack multiple targets in third job). Again, say your interests D=. For example, do you like having a bunch of mesoes, damage, like attacking mobs, like doing multiple hits, bossing, etc. etc.

Poison mages get amazing experience after level 77 with mist. They're much cheaper than before with the new NLC pots, too.

F/Ps are all out on damage early on in the game and all the way.
I/Ls damage nay not be as good as F/Ps but they can incapitate enemies (freezing) and can also attack multiple targets all at once unlike F/P wiz.
Clerics damage is the crappiest (well not crap but it's not as good as I/L or F/P) out of the wizards but they specialise in healing and buffs. They can also use healing to damage undead monsters.
Overall, it depends on your style of playing.

One more thing you should mention: How long do you plan to stay with this character? Up to 3rd job? 4th?

I plan to stay with him forever. I was going to get a card to move from Yellonde to Bera.

Cleric path:
Cleric:
+healer and buffer, wanted at PQs often (except CPQ )
+heals mobs to train/grind
+inexpensive
-lowest damage
-stuck with Magic Claw, unless you go for Holy Arrow
Priest:
+wanted at parties
-HS mule?
Bishop:
+wanted at bosses
+Genesis, strongest ultimate
+people buy leech more often
-expensive mastery books

Well, if you go with Ice/Lighting, there's always Retz. They're freaking awesome experience for early Lightning.

I've tried both I/L and Cleric classes.
Cleric requieres a lot of patience at early levels. Fast money making/saving. They are the weakest class [unless LUK-less] and are mostly supportive. Then again, you get in parties very quickly which allows you to level faster. At times, it can happen idiots threat you as a buff slave. But they actually get more fun as you level up. New Priests are horrible at level 70-80 due to their non-maxed skills (especially HS), but after that, you get to grind a lot thanks to DKs who would die to have a piece of your Heal at training spots. Bishop are Gods with Genesis since the most popular trainings spots are holy-weak monsters. Once again, you're a crucial member of a party.
As for I/L, they are okay in early beginning. They need a bit more funding than Clerics. Your base skills have the advantage to freeze monsters and you get to have a huge variety of offensive skills either lightning or/and ice. They do more damage than Clerics, but they are optional in parties. You will most likely solo. At level 70, it is about the same routine as earlier levels. Only level 120 is where the fun begins. You are granted one of the three most powerful offensive skills: Blizzard. Once again, you can.. FREEZE and have a good time!

if you want to go to ludus lake early, the deepr parts of ludi, I would be a lolf/p. I went to Death teddies at lvl 55 on my f/p, using poison brace, its fucking insane exp. then after that, mysting skeles/squids is fucking insane exp to. then meteo, not as good as genesis, but decent. Priests can leech good exp, and boss sooner, if you have the right friends, there really fast as well.

To add to what I said before, on a more serious note:
I/L's big draw is freezing. You incapacitate enemies, making them unable to hit you. In Khaini at least I/L is more popular because at the Archmage level your Blizzard freezes pretty much everything. BUT you are using Amplifier, so your pot drain will still be severe. While the price of Blizzard 30 has decreased considerably, it is still not that cheap. Getting into Horntail as an Archmage may pose a problem
F/P is NOT lolf/p. The lolf/p bit got started when a couple of the Khaini F/Ps started acting like asses, and because the class is rare. Other F/Ps are very nice, and it's not a bad class at all to play. Specifically, because of the low "status" associated with F/P you'll be a somewhat "unique" player among the hordes of clerics and sins. On a more tangible note, books for F/P are CHEAP. When I quit, Meteo 30 in Khaini was a whopping 3 mil mesos. So, while the I/L shoots himself for having failed 2 Bliz30s, you can get like 10 Meteo 30s for less than one of his Bliz30 would cost. Meteo 20 is the only book that actually costs something. The books for F/P are not all easy to find, (Para 30 and Elq 30 drop from GPQ,) but they're still not expensive. Your real concern will be Amp and pot money. At higher lvl, just like all mage classes, you can sell leech and compensate for that.
Bishop: The most commonly picked mage class is the unbalanced cleric, which combines Ultimate power proportionate to the other classes with most of the game's good party skills. Your Genesis has no Amp bonus, but you still do good damage. Also, you have Heal, Bless, Holy Symbol, Resurrect and Dispel. The common argument against Bishop is it's "too common." That is FALSE. A lvl 30 Cleric is common. If you play your Cleric and become a lvl 150 Bishop, you're no longer "common" at all. If you reach lvl 180, it doesn't matter anymore what class you are. Even a BW Paladin is strong and respected at that point, though of course a lvl 180 mage kills a lot faster. On the drawback is that Gen 30 is not cheap. It's MUCH cheaper now than before, but it's still not cheap
