Minecraft Build Contest?
#1
Well, I've solidified this set of rules so far:

- The contest will take place over three- to four-hour periods over the course of seven nonconsecutive days, which will be spread out to the convenience of participants.
- Participants will be able to sign up in teams of three to five, or individually to be randomly placed in a team.
- The goal of the contest is to build the most visually appealing and/or innovative creation that the team may think of, no matter what it is. Obscenity or any other inappropriate creations will result in a disqualification.
- Each team will be given a 150x150 plot of land whose bounds they may not build out of. There is no height or depth limit.
- The mode that this will be played in is survival. There will be mobs, however PvP will be turned off in most parts of the map (Details will come as the map is developed).
- Each team will start with only their plot of land and a food supply.
- For judging, there will be a panel of at least three judges. Creations will only be given one score per judge. Elements that may help this score are as following: Aesthetics, (mechanical) innovation, creativity, and functionality. Please note that creations do not have to fall under all of these categories, and that they are just goals to pursue when building.

Further rules will be outlined once the map is prepared and the number of participants is determined. I already posted a rough outline of the map, so you can look at that to get an idea of what it'll be like. Also, I'll start signups now; if you want to participate, please sign your name on the following list.

1.
2.
3.

Also, I still need a few judges. If I could use your server, Zelkova, that would be great.

Is there going to be a theme?

and how will people participate if they have not purchased the game?

also if people are all on the same server wont there be a problem with griefing?

You can always use a white list thingy.

If you use whitelist, only people with a Licensed copy of minecraft will be able to join.

You'll obviously have to own the game to be able to participate. I'm not going to support piracy when it comes to a game like Minecraft, where the devs deserve all the money they make.

Notch stated that piracy actually helps the game thrive.

Notch is no longer involved in the Development/Marketing of Minecraft (hardly could tell) So what he says isnt really conducive to what the developers actually want.

I think it's better to just take screenshots of the finished products and post them in a poll on Southperry. One judge might be too biased.

Notch is from a Socialist country.

True, I believe a group of judges should be nominated.
Can't you stop?
What?
Being Lame.

Well notch is still the original man behind minecraft, and he owns a fair share of mojang, so he could veto any change that would not like him (No that he will/want of course)

I will join as well. Time to dust off the block building skills!

Also, Any guidelines for this so far? Size? Creative or Survival mode?

I definitely won't be the only judge. Hopefully I'll be able to find a team of judges with different aesthetic tastes than mine so that the contest will be judged somewhat fairly.

Anyway, can we solidify some of the rules I've put up there? How big of a plot of land should I give you, and what should the time limit be? And what day should this be held?

I assume this will be survival and everybody on the same server so uhh how will you deal with griefing?

I'd hope everyone here is mature enough not to grief...

I can only host 1 server at a time, however I could put the current server on hold and make a creative flatlands server.

I plan on constructing the map myself. And I don't think we'll have a problem with griefing.

EDIT: It will be survival.
