So after months of putting up with this lame excuse of a connection, I've decided that I would consult all ye people at sp.net for help.
What's going on
Every time everything would appear to freeze for 40 seconds like any regular lack of connectivity, cuing my audible groan. Almost every time this happens, it pretty much means I disconnected, because after those 40 seconds of freezing, the whole screen screws up (an SS would help to describe this, but I don't have one T_T), then I either get sent back to the login screen (not likely) or I get booted out of MS completely.
This isn't just with MapleStory either. It also happens whenever I am browsing any other website. And having Vista, I tell my laptop to run diagnostics and find out what's going on. Most of the time it actually knows there's a problem, but it tells me that it can't communicate with the modem/router, and that a network cable is unplugged. wth, I'm on wireless o.O The other small percent of the time when I get this d/c is when Vista doesn't find anything wrong for some fked up reason, but I tell it to restart the wireless adapter anyways, at which point the internet pretends nothing happened.
What do I have
Toshiba Satellite laptop (I'm not at home right now, will edit specifics later)
Comcast modem
Linksys Router (it's at home also)
What I believe it is
It's either my Vista laptop or my router. Not sure. My laptop performed rather well when I was dormed at college last school year, so I'm pretty sure it's not entirely incompatibility issues. On the other hand, my laptop can't connect directly to the modem for some reason (but it can hook up to the router fine). I don't have any other computers to hook up to the modem for various reasons, so I can't assess whether it's actually my modem or if my ISP is just being a wanker. I don't believe it's either though since the d/c problems are much less severe when I connect via cable.
Btw, the problem's not coming from additional internet users, since the d/cs have been COMPLETELY RANDOM. They may annoy the fk out of me for hours, or I could go three days with no problems. Hard to tell how often it does this though since I'm not using the internet 24/7.
EDIT: Should I say that I'm actually looking for any insight as to what might be the actual problem?
