Computer "Sleeping" Problems

Hi! I hate when my computer sleeps! I hate screensavers!

Ok now that you know that..

My computer (The refurb from toshiba who royally fucked me) is having problems. If I do not interact with my computer for more than 5 minutes (if that) my computers monitor will turn black, and i cannot wake it up. I do not have my computer set to sleep, I have a screensaver set up for 5 minutes but it never catches it. It has steadily gotten worse over time, initially it would take 15 minutes for it to go blackscreen.

Has anyone else encountered this? I could easily just wipe the OS and reinstall I suppose....

Does this happen if you turn off all screensavers and sleep/hiberation. So pretty much set it so the computer will be ON (screen and everything) at all times.

The screensaver was an attempt to stop it. It happens no matter what.... I have sleep off, dim off, screen off - off. I have closing the lid set to do nothing. Pretty much, this computer should NEVER have its monitor off unless i close the lid...

Try using ubuntu(using USB or live CD) on it and see if same thing happens. Also Toshiba bundles their own "config" tools, see if any are available for your laptop.

Ive attempted to run Ubuntu on this machine before VIA both a Live CD and a USB boot, they freeze at the boot screen due to some incompatibility issue.

If you play music...and if it turns black, can you use the media keys to skip songs/pause play or hear the music still?

Music will stop playing. The only thing I can find that keeps the computer on is a skype call, but even then its only delayed.

I should think that I have my own file cabinet at Toshiba's tech support by now. Ive spent probably close to 20 hours on call with them, and my laptop has been sent to them 3 times.

I would firmly ask to speak to someone in charge or a manager and explain it to the manager and suggest a new replacement instead refurb.

I already have. I have gone from tech support to their highest form of customer service (I forgot its name). My laptop had been sent from the normal repair center to the corporate repair center.

Of course i did, but they weren't hearing it. The lady that was representing the highest of their tech support ladder was very rude about it and insisted upon only those 3 options.
