GunZ: The Second Duel
#1
official trailer:

gameplay video (of a guy who isn't very good)

judging by those videos, gunz 2 is looking amazing. what i see in the videos isn't particularly skillful gameplay, but given the map and just overall game design i'm sure that with a proper development of the metagame that this game will be great.
first of all, k-style is pretty much removed but replaced with a set of intentional player commands that will allow for the same concept of movement, albeit slower. there are two upsides about this: one, k-style won't be the one dominant metagame factor, and two, a good majority of the retarded pro-k-style gunz community won't play gunz 2 simply because there is no k-style, so there will probably be a few less idiots. both the lack of k-style and the division of players into diverse classes allows for a wider metagame variety, which is always better.

judging from what i've seen in the videos, overall design has also taken an upward turn. maps look much more strategically optimal and just more fun in general. there is an actual hitbox system, so headshots actually do a lot more damage. there's a semi-realistic physics system so you can break down walls and stuff.

i also took in some downsides from the videos. that melee stuns look way too overpowered. considering that gunz 2 is slower than gunz 1, you can pull off a shotgun juggle very easily (where he uses his sword to launch them into the air and then shoot them point blank). i'm not sure if there's a way to easily escape or reverse this, but hopefully the people in the video just weren't experienced enough to figure it out. second, SMG spray looks ridiculously compact. unless it's the only actual mobile automatic weapon in the game, its spray should definitely be more volatile. third, i don't like the idea of carrying around five weapons all the time especially since maiet is introducing class-oriented play. i also don't like the idea of a bullettime ultimate attack system.
i'm still looking to make the switch from S4 to gunz 2 as soon as this game comes out.

Man, the first GunZ was a massive piece of pomegranate of a game that was only fun because it was so poorly programmed that you could cancel dashes, wall-jumps and sword swings to fly around the map like a pineappleing Super Saiyan while firing a shotgun (termed "k-style" by the community because for some reason you need to be Korean to understand how to use basic animation cancelling, and disparaged by people who took GunZ way too seriously and thought it ruined the game). Anyway, interesting that they decided to implement that kind of insane movement into an actual sequel. Would be nice if the better map design and physics turns out to be true, but I'm still expecting rampant hacking and bad servers/management.
