This list is...the first list I've ever seen where I haven't liked a SINGLE nominated game in ANY category. Well, I like Dark Souls, but that's not this year's winner in that category (RPG), because it had the misfortune to be released in the same year as a localized version of Xenoblade.

These awards shouldn't even exist, and I don't understand why they are the largest nor do I understand why what they classify as GOTY gets a special edition. They completely look over anything not made in the US or that didn't sell a million or more units.

Games that should be on there but aren't include Radiant Historia and Catherine. Both should be in the music category at the very least.

Games that shouldn't be on there but are include... 80% of the list. Skyward Sword shouldn't even be on there because it's not pineappleing out. I'm not saying it's not GOTY worthy but technically NO ONE KNOWS. I don't understand why they couldn't wait until Monday to release their garbage list but whatever. pomegranate is an embarrassment.

Well... you can either have a popular vote or have a critics vote. With the first one you'll have stuff like this where the most hyped up game winning before it is released. With the second whichever company bribes the most money wins.

Perhaps we should take a page out of our government and use some sort of representative republic where the populace vote for the critics they like, who then vote for the best game.

Not for game of the year, no. But it had one of the best soundtracks of the year and was certainly one of, if not THE, top DS game(s)

It's also better than most of the garbage promoted there.

GOTY is absolute idiocy. I hate it. All it does is prevent even more actual gaming discussion by producing even MORE trolling (like reviews/scores). "Game of the year" should be your favorite game from year to year, simple as that. But nope, it's a penis-stroking ego fest. LOL THE GAME I LIKE IS MUCH BETTER THAN THE TRASH YOU LIKE. LOOK! THIS COMPANY PAID MORE MONEY THEREFORE THAT PROVES MY PICK IS SUPERIOR.

So much hate. Just does more harm to the gaming community, like money-hungry publishing fags, retarded "journalists" and circle jerks from parties that shouldn't even have anything to do with gaming. What the hell. It gets worse every year. I can't wait for the day when gaming has nothing to do with gaming.


Dark Souls is my game of the year, no contest. Nothing comes close. I truly miss the days when every year would produce a game I felt this adamantly about and enjoyed as thoroughly. It feels like it's been ages. No game has pushed me closer to the edge of total frustration and made me feel like a god moments later like Dark Souls. Exploring everything, basking in the scenic beauty of every new area, bracing myself for surprises around every corner, a desire to find everything, do everything, make my character the best she can be... I look forward to every chance I get to power up the game. This is what gaming always used to feel like to me. Now I know it's not dead. There is still hope. Thank you, From Software.

Fix some more bugs/glitches, and I would give Dark Souls as close to perfect as I could. I think it really says something about a game when I'm constantly looking forward to the next playthrough before I even finish the one I'm on! I wonder how many it will take before I can walk away... Haha

Except Portal 2 is realistically just DLC for Portal 1. It's the exact same game, just slightly different challenges.

You're still in the same environment, using the same character, against the same character, solving the puzzles in the same way, etc.

I don't see why people hate on the gaming of the year thing. It's just a show made for entertainment. Yes people get butthurt if their game loses, and big headed if their game wins, but damn isn't it that way for every competition ever? You're happy if your team wins a football game and yelling at the ref when your team loses

You prove my point in that a lot of games don't deserve to win a damn thing. The ''sequels'' end up looking just like a $5 DLC expansion.

The winners will obviously be hugely biased choices though, this is a western gaming community award show we're talking about here. There won't be any ''surprise wins'', so no point in paying any attention to any of it. It's like movie and music awards.
