I looked up another article, and it says the neutrinos are going at "60 nanoseconds" faster than light should be going, that's a pretty big amount considering just how scarily accurate we can measure the speed of light to.

I'd say I'm surprised and that this is batpomegranate insane, but as anyone who has studied any quantum mechanics could tell you, the fact that I think it's crazy means absolutely nothing.

Boy, if this turns out to be true, out the window goes so much of classical physics. Damn you QM, damn you.

Just out of interest, are you aware just how much of physics relies on the idea that the speed of light is an unbreakable limit? if this is true, this is a serious holy pomegranate moment for a an awful lot of high energy physics, anything to do with relativity, and several other areas of physics will all need to be improved on to take this into account

So if you exceed the speed of light by far, would some kind of time-ception happen? Like I've read that time goes slower in speed of light, so if you exceed speed of light enough would you go back in time?

How to raise people from death? shoot them to space 1000x faster than speed of light and back to earth.

Yes. If these results are accurate, following the current laws of physics the beam of netrinos they send from cern ,if sent over a short enough distance, would be able to arrive at the destination before they leave, essentially, time travel.

However, it's more likely that, if the results are accurate, the laws of physics are wrong and will need to be adjusted.

Holy pomegranate. I'll be honest, I know the basics of physics only right now, but.........I watch a lot of science programs and the only time I've ever heard of anything ever going faster then the speed of light is when matter exploded out of the dense point in the Big Bang theory....

Bet only neutrinos can go that fast (way more faster than just a 60 nanosecs difference) and don't even have any effect on space at that speed.

So. What if it did reach the speed of light, but it went backwards in time as it reached that speed? As in, accelerate until you break the light barrier, then keep going backwards in time, resulting in arriving before you noticed.

Wouldn't that count?

Of course, you can also consider taking a dump in Einstein's magnificent mane, because there's quite a lot that implies this is the case.

Einsteins theory only claimed that all things that had -mass- couldn't go faster then light.

If a neutrino has no mass after all, it's still possible that Einstein's relativity theory stands.

And I take it that the neutrino wasn't travelling through vacuum like light's ultimate speed c should be?

If it exists, it has mass. Even energy is mass acording to einstein. So yeah, still screwed, I'm afraid, one way or the other.
