Graphics Cards

Last year we bought a new computer, and it is great, but just recently ive been buying games on it, and i found that the video card that came with the PC is horrible for gaming. I currently have a ATI Radeon HD 5450 and it gives me horrible fps on most games. Ive been looking at new ones and was wondering if this ATI radeon HD 6750 would be good for gaming. Well, you need to be sure that your system can handle it.

- What brand and wattage power supply do you have?
- What resolution of monitor do you use?
- Does your monitor use VGA or DVI?
- What games are you looking to play?
- Will you be desiring any extra special features (HDMI, TV Tuner)?

You also need to know whether or not your motherboard supports it.

But it looks like both cards are PCI-E, so you should be good on that front if you already have the 5450

That's why I left that question out.

- What games are you looking to play?- things like mass effect 2/ assassins creed/ and overall more FPS on like MMOs and stuff

The 300W power supply will hold you back. The power consumption of the 6750 is 86W. As long as your other components don't take up too much power (please list your components?), you should be fine with a 6750. You also want to be sure that you don't have a slim case. This graphics card will be much larger than the one you have.

The 6750 is an excellent choice for entry level gaming, but you won't be able to turn everything up at 1920 x 1080. However, the 6750 should be about 6 - 8x faster than the 5450.

Ehhhhh... Your processor can do up to 125W. So figure in:

CPU - 125W
GPU - 89W
RAM - 3W
HDD - 9W
DVD - 3W
Mobo - 25W

You're looking at 254W under load on a 300W PSU. That's not really something I'd recommend. If your power supply fails under load, the computer will shut off. Pushing your power supply too hard can harm your PC. You'll need a better power supply if you want this graphics card.

Well im going to need something that my 300W can handle then, cause i cant buy all this myself, as this is technically my dads computer....

Any of the 6670's would be OK. That'll shave off about 30W from the graphics card. While I'm still not too pleased about consuming 220W on a 300W machine, it should be doable.

Thanks for the help Fiel. Ill try to convince my parents of the new power supply and the 6750 but if not thanks for the 2nd option
