Well, I was looking at one thing (looking for pic of Megas XLR on google), which lead to me look at something completely different (a funny joke site) and I somehow end up watching this? The internet is funny that way.
I WARN YOU! DO NOT WATCH THIS VIDEO IF YOU CAN'T SIT THROUGH A "Saw (1-5) " MOVIE!
http://www.chooseveg.com/animal-cruelty.asp
Anyways... I'd like to know what your perspective is on eating meat and vegetarianism.
Questoins I wish for someone to answer :
1) What are the pros and cons of cutting out meat from your diet?
2) What are the pros and cons of living off of crops and fruits for the rest of your life?
3) Have we gone too far in satisfying our need to feed?
4) Is eating meat such a necessity? If it is, does that mean these acts (shown in the video) are justified?
---I know we and every other predatory animal of the world have been killing other animals since the dawn of time to survive, but I feel as if it's crossing the line of cruelty. Atleast in the wild, the animal being hunted has a chance to live. Btw, I'm not forcing you to watch that video, but please if you are going to post a reply, THEN WATCH THE ENTIRE VIDEO FIRST.
---Personally I can't imagine ridding myself of meat. I'm reminded of the news story about how men who eat tofu every day have a lowered sperm count, but yeah... Then again, there's plenty of alternatives that don't require meat. Pasta, rice, fruit, vegetables, oatmeal (with water duh), nuts, and probably more I haven't named. Is there a solution where we don't have to eliminate meat from our diets and maintain a humane way of getting meat? I know it seems idiotic to ask for a humane way to still get meat, but I mean atleast a way that doesn't involve an entire life (I mean from birth to death) of suffering for the animals. And if for some reason you're going to post a pic, use a spoiler tag so as not to offend anyone. I hope I'm not offending anyone by making this thread... I don't expect more than two replies. Atleast two. (._.')

Switching to vegetarianism will not prevent inhumane slaughter of animals; if you don't eat it, someone else will. They fill their quota regardless if you switch to vegetarianism or not. You can live entirely on a vegetarian and supplemental diet, but I prefer my meat because it's a hell of a lot easier and cheaper to get my nutrients that way. The only way to change the way abbatoirs kill livestock is to apply pressure on the companies that prepare the meat.

I seriously don't try to think about how the meat I eat got there, I just eat it.
I hate seeing animals abused, but I can't be a Veg-head all my life.

Meat tastes better than veggies. (To me anyway.) That video didn't phase me at all, though I did feel a disgusted about how they're treated.

I didn't watch the ENTIRE video as you had asked, but I did research this topic before a little and know what conditions chickens/hens/other various farm animals go through in order to feed the masses. What I can say is that it didn't change my eating habits. To comment on the video being the source of a change in someone's life.. well I don't think it's really possible. Eating meat is already so established in our lives that we don't really give a second thought to it. Getting your protein from non-meat sources is a helluva lot more.. I want to say inconvenient, just because I can't find a more suitable word. Inconvenient in the sense that people aren't really willing to start shopping for beans and looking up other ways to fulfill their daily nutritional requirements.
To answer your questions briefly:
1) What are the pros and cons of cutting out meat from your diet?
Pros: Since farmers inject so many chemicals into animals to make them grow at an abnormal weight, those chemicals go into our system when we eat them. Not showing support for animal cruelty.
Cons: Meat tastes good. Easy to get protein.
2) What are the pros and cons of living off of crops and fruits for the rest of your life?
Pros: I like veggies and fruits, they are tasty. Healthy way of life.
Cons: Expensive. Inconvenient. Not necessarily satisfactory.
3) Have we gone too far in satisfying our need to feed?
Possibly, but most Americans don't realize that this happens. Even if they do realize it, what are they going to do about it?
4) Is eating meat such a necessity? If it is, does that mean these acts (shown in the video) are justified?
It's not really a necessity, but some people do crave meat. I don't consider a meal a meal until I've had some sort of meat. However, I don't think the acts are justified. There are certainly more humane ways to raise animals for consumption.

last weekend i was at that festival (dont really know the theme, mainly music and drugs lol) and the israeli organization of veganism (w/e u call it) had some kind of a "space" (poor vocabulary) there where they tell ppl about what our animals-that-are-used-for-meat are going through before they're killed or when they're used for eggs/milk, they even showed some sick videos, like me and my friend were standing there on the first day and one of the vegans just put on a video of a cow being killed, in order to shock us lol, right when they slit her throat we talked about getting a burger and this vegan guy almost cried haha..
but yeah, they have some really good points, and it's very unethical (the killing is only the begining, the treatment is the really bad part!) and we can live without meat according to those guys (b12 is in cereal blah blah)...
tbh, i would convert to veganism if only it wasnt so good and delicious, both meat and dairy!
though one thing i know i wont eat is cow-calf meat, they are by far the most miserable of all the animals we eat from what they showed me!
btw, if it wasnt for meat, we were dumber! meat is the reason for our big brains.
oh, and vegans are the most argumentative ppl in the world... srsly. :<

There's no correlation between brain size and eating meat, and slitting an animal's throat is a pretty humane way of killing an animal because it drains the blood very fast, and the animal is usually hung upside down if it's a relatively small animal, like a pig, so that the animal passes out really quicky and dies while its unconscious.

ive seen too many science shows that clearly said that eating meat was the key to our evolution.
and in the video it seemed pretty cruel, and the animal kept on moving even after they put her aside, but it's the life they are living which is really bad.
problem is, that the more humane the killing way is, the more expensive it is too.

The problem with these videos is that they either deliberately find the worst and most shocking examples of how animals are treated, or worse yet, make them themselves, and try to pass it off as being industry standards.

Please provide some evidence for your claim because never in my years of education have I read about a correlation between eating meat and intelligence in evolution. Intelligence itself is a really subjective term. Forming tools was key to our evolution, not necessarily eating meat. Eating meat was an effect of our increased intelligence, not a cause.

They're our food....... there's no nice way to kill an animal. The way they're treated before death is terrible on the farmer's part (the ones in this video). I did see my uncle slit a pigs throught when I was just 7 years old..... that was kinda wierd for me.
Still though, just because you eat the burger, doesn't mean you want to meet the cow.

when vegetarians preach to others to become vegetarian, do they have any other reasons for it in their mind? or do they see it all based on their feelings for other organisms. cuz you know, plants can have feelings too, your also being mean to them by not acknowleding the situation as killing plants.

Both Vegetarianism and Omnivorism(?) are perfectly feasible dietary plans. But to fall into the "healthy" category, both plans need careful consideration.
Vegetarians need to eat a very mixed array of vegetable and legumes to ensure they satisfy their bodys needs in terms of vitamins and minerals.
Omnivores need to ensure they don't overeat. IIRC, the recommended daily serving of meat is 60-90 grams, yet the average steak weighs far more than this.
As a result of this, "healthy" vegetarians compared to the overall vegetarian population have a larger percentage when you compare the "healthy" omnivores to the overall omnivore population as vegetarians need more will power in order to sustain their dietary needs.

ugh, u search for it!
i got it from science shows on t.v, which talked about the evolution of men, from the first apes to walk on 2 legs (which ate meat! unlike any other apes at that time, i think), to the neanderthal man (maybe there was an episode about us too that i missed)...
well, if i remember correctly, it wasnt only for meat that we grew big brains, but meat had essential vitamins and other stuff that we needed...
after all, dont forget that unlike now, the diet back then (millions of years) was alot smaller and it was more like "just eat what u can" so maybe fruits that contains iron for example was extra-rare, so in this case, eating meat is a great solution!
u can just figure this stuff out, plus, from what i understand, b12 vitamin affects our intelligence and brain volume and stuff like that....
also, something helped us develop tools, prehistoric-humans werent as innovative as we are, they took the world for granted and discovered tools mostly by accident (also was said in that one science program).
i think it was a bbc program, and i kinda believe it although it's filled with speculations.

I do remember reading somewhere that the domestication of animals was an important part of our society; not necessarily eating them. I'll try and dig it up.

Becoming a vegetarian really won't help these animals. That, and meat is just so yummy Instead I try to buy biological meat, it's a little more expensive but it's tastier and healthier due to proper feeding and no chemicals, fertilizers, gene technology and all that crap being used on the farm. And it's more humane since the animals can move around freely, they get outside and they get normal food.
Over here thanks to campaigns and the government supporting biological farming it's becoming more and more popular. I think it's a lot easier to convince people to buy bio food instead of telling them to stop eating meat and dairy completely because poor Bessie is in pain Heh, I'm having steak tonight!

That's just theory, you know.
There's a theory why we are so smart, and apparently, it was due to our lack of water-sources when the heat-seasons of the year came over us and we had no water left, forcing us to think out of the box to survive. Thus, human "created" imagination.

Claiming that farm animals are treated worse than wild animals would require equivalent videos of how wild animals are hunted for food...
Either way, something's gonna die. How much pain is questionable, for example fish can't feel pain in the same way mammals can.
