Level-5, makers of some of the best games to hit store shelves over the last few years like Professor Layton and Dragon Quest VIII and IX, have opened a localization studio in America. Not only that, but they want our input on what games to localize! This is exciting for so many reasons, but mostly because after being neglected by Nintendo, a company is willing to listen to what their fans want.
They've listed 10 games that they want to localize but they're looking for input on what should take priority. Obviously, Wright vs. Layton is currently in first place, but here's the list.
- Professor Layton vs. Ace Attorney (3DS)
- Professor Layton and the Mask of Miracle (3DS)
- Fantasy Life (3DS)
- Girl's RPG Cinderelife (3DS)
- Time Travelers (3DS)
- The Little Battlers (PSP)
- Ni no Kuni (PS3 Version)
- Ni no Kuni (DS Version)
- Inazuma Eleven (DS)
- Inazuma Eleven Strikers (Wii)
You can cast your vote here: http://www.facebook.com/LEVEL5IA
Some of these games look terrible (Inazuma/Girl's RPG Cinderelife) but I've really been looking forward to Fantasy Life, and now, thanks to this poll, have been introduced to the incredible, beautiful world of Ni no Kuni (Another World), which was actually created by Studio Ghibli, creators of Spirited Away, amongst others.

This all but assures LvsW will be here soon and hopefully Another World will follow, because god, it's beautiful.

Ni no Kuni = Pokemon with Real-time battle. I love it.

It's closer to Dragon Quest than Pokemon but okay.
People need to stop comparing any game with monster parties to Pokemon.

Well what do you expect when the video only gives you 10-15sec of battle footage involving you commanding creatures to battle other creatures?

For you to say "wow this game looks pretty cool! I like having monster party members ^______________________________^;;;" instead of going "IS THAT MODERATELY UNCUT GRASS? THIS GAME IS EASILY COMPARABLE TO POKEMON IN SO MANY WAYS."
Sorry, shouldn't be derailing my own thread about GREAT GAMING NEWS. Let's just celebrate. And never compare anything to Pokemon again.

Whaaaat? But I mentioned Ni no Kuni in your old wishlist thread! Also, Fantasy Life and Time Travelers among other things.
Well sh'it, if I had to pick something to come out first I guess I'd like to see Time Travelers because I'm such a fanatic about time travel.

pineapple yeah! I'm still pissed at myself for missing the one assignment where I could have worked on localization with them; and Sony's been a peach about callbacks for a while now. I don't care if it's a couple hours away, I'm applying for their QA whenever I get the chance. Though, learning Japanese proper might be a helpful towards landing that kind of perm work versus the temp stuff I've done...
Anyway, I wish them success in the US and hope that low sales don't drive new localizations from them out. That seems to have become a trend lately I'd not like to see repeated.

Level-5 is an extremely solid company with backing from Square-Enix, I can't imagine that they'll be hurting for successful projects.

Not what I was trying to imply at all. I was just hoping that the company does well in this economy and doesn't end up reading the stats in such a way that projects don't even get started.
Quite frankly, they have been my top company for a while now, so I was in no means trying to belittle them.

>>Implying I liked Pokemon to begin with.
I'm more in love with the "Real Time Battle" system over anything else. Any game that has that system is always a big plus to me. The "Monster Party" style is just an extra.
The point is, I generalize all "Monster party" styles with Pokemon, just like how you generalize all "Traditional RPG Battle" styles with DQ, although "Generalize" might be the wrong word I'm looking for. :|

Needs more Mask of Miracles votes. We all know WrightvLayton is going to win.
Ni no Kuni looks AMAZING though. I'm definitely getting that when it comes out.

Type-0... Not coming... Will have to get a Vita... Sq-Enix? Please.
Level-5 and Atlus have been pumping the best Japanese titles lately that's for sure, no point in discussing that.

I've lost my hopes for a western release of Type-0 for the PSP. I'm sure it'll arrive after Vita hits the US shore. So Level-5 being backed by Sq-Enix doesn't give them any sort of reliability. Sq-Enix is being terrible with releases in the West.

That's not what I meant at all, and Square-Enix isn't terrible at releasing their stuff at all. They are probably the MOST reliable Japanese company when it comes to Western releases. But of course, there's no arguing that it will come out AFTER the Vita here because the Vita is scheduled for release in like November/December and Type-0 isn't even coming out until October in Japan. Even if Type-0 hadn't been delayed it wouldn't be out before the Vita because western releases take place around 6 months after their Japanese counter-parts. Typically with added features.
Also everyone here uses a hacked PSP, yourself included, so there isn't a ton of incentive for them to rush it. In Japan the PSP is the main seller and very few people have hacked theirs. Hopefully the Vita will have better security to prevent pirating so we see more western releases of ALL games.
But none of this has ANYTHING to do with Level-5. Their being backed by Square-Enix just means that they are very likely to continue releasing extremely successful games like the Dragon Quest series which in turn also allows them to work on other games like Ni no Kuni and White Knight Chronicles because their name is out there and they're making decent money already.

Sorry for the double post but just wanted to post this because it is pretty important
Level-5 Wrote:Well give the poll another day before we do a final count on the votes to see if any other games can steal some thunder from LAYTON VS ACE ATTORNEY! We apologize that you can only pick one title, but dont worry; the poll is just to gauge interest, not to confirm any titles. Your enthusiasm and comments go a long way though! Spread the word to your friends!
Sooo just because LvsW will definitely win doesn't mean us Ni no Kuni advocates will necessarily be left waiting 4 - 8 months for that localization to start. Pretty exciting.
