Hello, I need help on how to save video files off youtube.com. The reason why I need to save a file is that I really want a rare song and the only place I can find it is youtube.com

I also want to know: how can you extract a song from a video? :X

You can use vixy.net to turn the flash video on youtube into an avi file, or an mp4 file, or an audio mp3 file. Firefox might also have an add-on that you can download, but I generally use vixy.net if I can't find a certain song anywhere else.

Thats even better than the link I posted! *bookmarks* This will help me a lot since I like to take instrumental songs or lyrics off youtube and remix them. Thank you!

I'm still using an older version since it had updated since my download, but this worked great for me. Free-Video-to-MP3-Converter It's pretty quick too, I hope it helps.

You can use Audacity, get the LAME MP3 encoder, and record the audio output of your computer.

To extract songs from videos on Youtube, I use this http://www.downloadhelper.net/. It is an add on for FF and then I use http://www.aoamedia.com/audioextractor.htm to convert the files to MP3. Both are very very easy to use and the extractor is very fast.

I have a question though, is this legal? I use it at home often, but my university (NCST) is very strict on illegal downloading so I don't want to get caught.

I did a not so thorough search on the matter and found nothing. I say since the videos are already available online to the public, then there shouldn't be a problem with wanting to view them offline. I say continue to download off youtube until it is specified by youtube or your school that it's not allowed.

I use the firefox extention "Fast Video Download", which lets me download videos from almost any page which hosts it. I usually then just make it an AVI, and go into MovieMaker and extract the sound.
